Hey guys...

So, right now I'm a freshman who is almost at the end of her first year of college. I really, really, reaalllyy, want to transfer into Barnard College in New York. My stats:

3.9 gpa in high school, don't know the UNW
Tons of EC's (at least 12). More notably, I was in the student government judicial council, valedictorian, and I was class president.
SAT score was unfortunate...a 1610 on the regular SAT, a 580 on American History SAT II and 600 on the English SAT II.
I did start taking community college classes when I was a Junior (Statistics-B, Honors English-B, Honors American History II-B, College Algebra-C, Chemistry I-B, Chem lab I-B, PreCal-C).
And I graduated at 16. I don't know if that matters but whoop there it is.

Right now I'm an English major, I have a 3.5 from first semester, I'm in a couple of clubs, and I volunteer at a shelter in my spare time.

I will chance you back to the best of my ability :DD

I’m aspiring to go to Barnard too, and from the research I’ve done your SAT score is really low for Barnard standards. Other than that, everything else seems fine. Your GPA is the same as most students, your grades look decent, the fact that you have a lot of ECs is AMAZING for character build (which Barnard loves), and the fact that you graduated early is good. I think you have a pretty decent chance, but it isn’t definite. If you want a better chance of getting in, schedule an interview!! I read online that Barnard REALLY cares about students having a good character, so show them your good character. The fact that you volunteer is great! I think you should be fine.
Could you chance me? I’m a junior, in 5 ECs now and possibly joining 2 more, I’m in national honors society, I’ve been a varsity athlete for 2 years, I’ve been in mostly honors/ap classes (with the exception of cp math), my first ap class was as a sophomore (US History) and I got a 3 on that ap exam. I’m in 3 ap classes this year (euro, psychology, english) but i havent taken those exams yet. My grades have been good in those classes, from b’s to a’s. My grades in my other classes are good. Next year im probably taking 3 or 4 ap classes (environmental, art history, government, and maybe english if i get placed in ap english again). I took my sat in march and got a 1790; 680 for writing, 630 for reading, and 480 on math. I plan on increasing all of my scores for the june sat. Im taking the sat in june and october, and two subject sats in november (english and us history). Ive volunteered, including doing special olympics for 2 years. Ive also joined the newly formed womens welfare club at m school, which might look good for Barnard since it’s an all female college. Im planning on going in for an interview for character recommendation, but do you think I have a good chance of getting in? I might get moved down to honors english from ap, do you think this would significantly hurt my chances?

Heyy, thanks for replying. So, as a very wise and mature (not really) college student, I think you have great chances. You are still a Junior (in HS I assume) and you have time to bump up your already not bad SAT. If you could hit 2000 you’d be set. I wish I could have T_T. Um, so about the ap to honors business, no I don’t think it would be bad if you got moved. I think honors is more about how well you do with keeping a consistent, strong GPA in high school while ap is about how good you do on retaining information and understanding your subject really well. Basically, they’re different but equal IMO. Maybe try to cultivate those curriculars. You look really good otherwise. Good luck though, I hope you get in!
