@electrichapel9 this is true. My ACT was not even in their range and I got deferred. My counsellor called the Barnard admissions office and they said that I am a strong applicant for Barnard because of the rest of my application, the main reason why I wasn’t accepted was because of the amount of students they’re able to accept for ED.
@gettingthisbread your counselor sounds lit
@SuperBigMusicLover my sat was 1210 (my math score was 510 rip) but my act was way better. Have you taken it yet? Highly reccomend if the sat seemed hard. Usually people do better on one or the other. I don’t know if there’s enough time left but it might be worth considering if you haven’t already…
My SAT reading/writing was a 700 and my math was a 500…lol rip. I took the October ACT. That was a flop as I ran out of time and didn’t finish multiple sections. My December ACT score comes out this Tuesday, so hopefully I did better.
@SuperBigMusicLover I’ll keep my fingers crossed for u m8. What instrument do you play (if you don’t mind me asking, I’m just assuming you do based on your username)? I play violin
No instruments here, I just sing in an all-female A Capella group haha. Being able to play the violin sounds really rad!
@SuperBigMusicLover choir counts as an instrument imo, it requires training and practice too Violin IS rad lol I’m scared about having to fly with it if I manage to get into Barnard and end up going tho
Yes, it is an Ivy. It’s Barnard College at Columbia University. Columbia confers the degree as Barnard has no degree granting authority per its charter.
HI GUYS so glad I found this thread :DD and am I the only one still working on my essays?!?!?!?
I did the math and if the rise in applicant for ED is proportionate to an increase RD, then we’re looking at a 9% RD acceptance rate this year (or lower), down from an 11% acceptance rate last year (calculated from actual RD stats bc the typical reported acc rate is average ED and RD). :-S
Yikes… with my score, I’m fearing the worst. I did get into Barnard Bound and attended, but idk if it’s a huge advantage over ppl with 1500+ SAT scores
@SuperBigMusicLover I’m still confused if Barnard Bound offers any definite benefit to applicants. I’ve heard of people who were in it that were rejected anyway, and other people who’ve said it’s the only reason they got in…
Even if it’s just by a little, it still helps!
Just applied to Fordham as a NYC match (?) school, and I still need to do my ‘Why Barnard’ essay lol
Update: I applied lol
I finally got all my teachers to submit recommendations just in time ??
Did anyone else apply through BOP OR HEOP?
I submitted my application and supplemental essays, but my counselor hasn’t submitted my transcript or recommendations. This is out of my control. I have to wait until January 7th when I go back to school. I’m worried that I will be denied because these materials aren’t submitted. Does anyone know if it is alright if these things are in just a few days late?
@koolkoolkennedy Maybe you could send the admissions office an email when your counselor submits everything to explain the situation? Or even call the admissions office tomorrow to clarify your circumstances?
@musemuse I think Barnard Bound gives the admissions officers an insight into your interest in Barnard. The students that were part of the program worked hard to get in as well as attend. At the end of the day, the colleges want to make sure that you’re a student that wants to actually attend the school and not someone who’s applying to apply.
@koolkoolkennedy As far as I know it’s just your app that needs to be in by Jan 1 and they give the GC a bit of a buffer for the rest.
