@AcademiaSavvy – That’s great to hear and I’m sure you’re fine – don’t worry about it. Good luck – it sounds really promising for you. Just remember, what you do in college is more important than where you go. I’m sure your future is bright no matter what! Hang in there!
@AlmostThere2018 Thank you for the advice! Good luck to your daughter
@calmom I was asked to interview in February, but decisions don’t come out until late March, so do you think the admissions committee looks at special program applicants first? I know the general process is for the AC that is assigned to your state to look at your application first, but how would they carry this out? Following my interview, I learned there is a steering committee for (SP)2, so I’m not sure if applicants to the program are first reviewed by them or what.
I wouldn’t know the process, but “pre-screen” means just that, and they send the decision concerning (SP)2 along with admission notice – so it stands to reason that they would have to screen the (SP)2 applicants early in the process.
A screen isn’t a final decision, but it is a preliminary ranking. I don’t know Barnard’s process – typically in college admissions the readers will rank applications with a simple scoring system – such as from 1-5, with 5’s being definite admits and 4’s being likely or probable.
I think one thing that could change the admission decision would be a significant drop in mid-term grades- as that is the one piece of information may come in later in the process.
Even if the student is not accepted to (SP)2, the applicants by definition are all in a favored admission category (URM or first generation) – plus simply wanting to be a STEM major is also added value (in 2016, only about 20% of Barnard grads were STEM majors, and barely more than 1% were chem majors).
March is here, omygod.
On Columbia Spectator there’s an article (https://www.columbiaspectator.com/spectrum/2017/04/18/youre-in-what-to-expect-from-barnards-accepted-students-programs/) about accepted student programs, but if you can’t make it are u allowed to sit in on a class on your own time? Barnard’s website you can schedule a class visit. If you are admitted and choose Barnard, are you now considered a student and allowed to sit in on a class? I know Columbia allows for accepted prospective students to sit in on Core classes.
Are we notified about admission decisions at the same time Columbia is?
No, Barnard decisions are separate. Generally during the last week of March.
Super scared omg I was a YWLI student last yr and I want to go back and study there for 4 yrs!!
Can’t believe it’s almost time. Barnard has been my top school since sophomore year! I don’t know if I should be excited or nervous!!
@moxi99 I’ve found that burying myself in school & reading Columbia Spectator helps me avoid anxiety inducing Barnard chance me threads :))
Did they say when decisions come out?
The website says “late march” https://admissions.barnard.edu/apply-barnard/dates-deadlines
I’m predicting either the 22nd or 29th. For the past three years–and maybe further I just don’t know where to check–it’s been on a Thursday and either on the last Thursday of March or the second to last Thursday of March.
@AcademiaSavvy I think you may be right. I applied ED and these college forums predicted finding out the decision to be the second Thursday in December (past two years in 2016 and 2015 and possibly more), however this past year Barnard ED students got decisions the second Tuesday of December. So if the RD day of the week follows the ED day which is Tuesday, I’m guessing decisions will be March 20th. But I have no idea! Before finding out my ED decision, I received an email about 2 or 3 days in advance that let me know to check the portal, so I’m guessing that we all be getting email notifications within the next week or two. So exciting!
@moxi99 If Barnard wants to create a new trend of releasing decisions on Tuesday it’s fine with me because the sooner the better! It’s crazy that in possibly 2 weeks we’ll find out. When I applied ED to CC & was rejected I told myself there was no way I could wait until late March/early April for decisions, but here we are!
I’m so nervous…Barnard is my top choice, but I think there’s no way I’m gonna get into such a good school QAQ
Are any of you guys doing pre-med by the way?
Did any of you guys do interviews?
@nerdalert18 I am
