I’ve read a lot about the new guest policy at Barnard (no more than 3 consecutive nights or 6 nights in a month) and I was wondering what any students thought about it? Is it strictly enforced? I’ve seen a lot of criticisms about it being slut shaming. Has anyone encountered any problems, or is it not too big of a deal?

Very interesting. I don’t have any info on how this currently would affect anyone, but I can say that, if it’s enforced, it would have had a huge effect on some of my D’s suite mates’ living arrangements when she was there.

This might provide you some insight:

Basically, the policy is in place so that suite mates who might not appreciate a “guest” staying long-term have recourse.

Are “visitors” a problem in the dorms? I’m not sure paying students should have to share their space with anyone but another paying student (roommate) except in rare situations. We are new to the college process and I guess it was just assumed that overnight guests would be the rare exception.
Well, I’m a high school senior, but I have many older friends and siblings who I’ve visited. One of my best friends, her boyfriend visits her for a weekend every couple months. I used to stay with my sister for a weekend every so often. I know a girl who rarely doesn’t have a male sleep over on the weekend days, but her roommate doesn’t care. It depends on the person and the situation, but yeah there tends to be a decent amount of sleep overs.
This is general college knowledge though, not specific to Barnard.
