Hey everyone, I just wanted to make this thread so we can share advice on being deferred. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting a deferral, I was expecting either to be rejected or accepted flat-out, but I’m grateful we all have another shot at going to Barnard!
So if anyone has any advice on what to do next please share!!
Hey! I’m in the same boat! I’m kind of confused by the statement. They say send a letter of interest OR rec letter so do they only want one? I was kind of hoping I could send more…
They’re going through roughly 7000 applications in the RD pool on top of ours, so I would keep that in mind, but I think I’m still going to submit more content anyways. I have a really close relationship with all of my teachers, so I think I’ll send 1-2 teacher recommendations (I didn’t fill the two optional ones anyways) as well as a letter of interest. I don’t know how long I’ll make my letter of interest, but probably not longer than 1-2 pages.
@letsgetthatbread I’m calling my Rep with my counselor as soon as possible, so hopefully I can gain some insight that way. Otherwise, I’m just hoping to show continued interest.
@electricchapel9 I don’t know what Barnard’s preticular stance is, but calling a rep is in a lot of guides of what to do when you get deferred. I’m not going to push them, I just think it might be helpful at least to get an idea for what else to send. Even if they don’t really give me an answer I think it will make me feel a little better just to call, lol.
I had my counselor call my admissions rep the other day and my counselor told me that she said that Barnard typically receives around 6% of their entire applicant pool during ED, but this year that number jumped to 24% (as compared to last years numbers) So yeah obviously that’s a HUGE increase in applicants and I truly believe that if we all weren’t competitive they would have just rejected us. We’ve got this!!
@electricchapel I agree that many colleges discourage calls from candidates, but if your Counselor is willing to call and has additional information to share, that may be of benefit.
@ibsadgurl letter of continued interest and one more teacher recommendation (I didn’t fill the two optional ones when I applied). I might add to my portfolio too.
