Hi all deferred Barnard applicants. I thought it would be a great idea to start a new thread for us students, who wished we could be accepted ED, but now it’s a waiting game. Barnard Class 2022 here we come!
We can do it!
How do you know if you were deferred or flat out rejected??
@california123456 hi you would know based on the second or third sentence where they say we defer your application at this time or something like that.
@sister99 Yeah we can!
feeling really bummed but there’s still a light at the end of the tunnel!!! hoping for the best, but still riddled with uncertainty :((
@moxi99 thank you. looks like I was rejected then
I got deferred too…which is good and bad because I could still get in but also could just get rejected later and either way I still have to submit a lot more RD apps. Does Barnard defer a lot of people? I thought they didn’t but now idk.
@collegeknowledge I’m not sure if they do. That could be something to look into. But yeah I’m in the same boat, gotta submit more apps than I thought I would have to…
@california123456 Hey I’m so sorry!! There are many more schools that deserve you. It’s a shame that Barnard couldn’t see that. Barnard’s rejection won’t define you!
Wondering if you are all American students.
I’m Chinese and I got deferred
I was really disappointed that I got deferred, but on the bright side that means we still have the chance to get in right?
I’m Japanese and got deferred
Howdy y’all! I’m still holding out hope for Barnard, at least it wasn’t an outright rejection! Yes we can!!
I’m Chinese American and got deferred.
Thank you <3 @moxi99
I got deferred too… Completely heartbroken- I’ve wanted to go to Barnard since I was in 5th grade. Does anyone know any statistics about how many students Barnard defers vs rejects? Also, does anyone know what their deferral acceptance rate is? Sending love to all you lovely ladies!
My daughter was deferred as well. We are wondering how others have interpreted the deferral notification — do you plan to send a letter AND an additional recommendation AND another writing sample? The deferral letter uses the word OR so we want to make sure she doesn’t over do it : ).
She will likely call Barnard this afternoon, but I thought I’d check here first. Thank you!
@24bunheadmom20 I think that a letter of interest is warranted in all cases, and if you can provide an additional strong recommendation that can’t hurt. As for the writing sample, I’m not certain that at this time it will make any difference. Indeed, Barnard states that papers etc., are not circulated to faculty but rather reviewed my admissions counselors, so I imagine a strong reference and updated information about new awards, accomplishments etc., will be more impressive. Good luck!
