I'm considering applying to this Pre-College program. I have decent grades - 3.9 GPA weighted, 3.5 unweighted. I got a 1980 on my SATs. I'm honestly wondering how competitive this program is. Is it extremely selective? Also, how selective are Pre College Programs in general? Advice appreciated.

Bump, any responses?

There have been a couple of threads about this and nobody has really replied. I guess we’re all just going to have to take a chance.

Okay, sent in my application this morning. Does anyone have any information yet? Haha.

Helping with the bumpage here…

honestly, most pre college programs at college are just an opportunity for more money from students. Most pre college programs (even the most prestigous) accept majority of students. The accredited ones are slightly selective i’d assume, but you shouldn’t have a problem. In most courses, youdon’t even need to send in your SAT score.

To be honest, I don’t care much about its selectivity. I just want to know if anyone who’s been can tell us whether it’s worth going to. (Well, I’m definitely going anyway, but it’d still be nice to hear from someone with past experience.)

So, wow… I’m two years late on answering this thread, but I definitely could’ve used this thread when I was applying to the program earlier this year, so I’m going to comment anyways.

I went to this program this past summer. I was in the four-week program and I took Psychology of Media and Psychology 101 for my classes. This program was hands down the BEST four weeks of my life. I made really great friends, who will last a very long time, and I really learned a lot. The program brings in such great professors, who really know what they’re doing so you will have to work, but it is VERY much worth it. To not sign up for this program would be a silly thing to do. If you have the means to do so, SIGN UP for this program. I went as a rising junior, and I will be going back as a rising senior.

To add to the stories of people who went, I did it last summer and I loved it! I took nonfiction writing and contemporary art, and I did the 4 week program. I would definitely recommend the program, especially if you are considering Barnard without having experience living in a big city, specifically living in Manhattan. It was very productive for me because I discovered that even though Barnard is a beyond excellent school, it’s not for me. One of the things I want to study in college is studio art, which isn’t a big presence at Barnard, and in addition I don’t know if I would be able to handle the city for 4 years (I’ve lived in Colorado my whole life, and the lifestyle change might have been a little too striking). But I LOVED it for a month.
