Barnard RD 2016 Hopefuls!

Oops, I forgot to put my name and SSN on my supplement. I knew I had forgotten something…

@SmySmy Don’t worry about it too much, I did the same thing. I ended up calling them and they said it doesn’t make a big difference at all considering your name is still there on the online copy of the common app. It would be crucial if you were mailing it in. If anything, I’m 100% sure you can email them a new copy if you’re that worried about it. They’ll appreciate your concern and even print out a copy of the email for your file when it comes time to review admissions.

SmySmy, when I previewed my uploaded documents they had my name and common app ID on them automatically, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it… I hope… cause I didn’t do that either.

Oh okay, that’s good. I emailed them just in case.

Barnard is one of my top choices. The only thing I’m really concerned about is that I didn’t really answer the “what intrigues you about Barnard’s approach to the liberal arts” question. Hopefully they’ll overlook that, though, because I think my other short answers were very strong and genuine. Can’t wait to find out if I got in! Good luck to everyone. :)

Oh my god, I cannot tell you how much I know what you ladies are feeling. I applied ED this year and let me tell you, that month of waiting was grueling - I can’t even imagine having to wait almost three times as long to hear back!

But here’s my advice: don’t sweat the small stuff. Just because your SAT scores aren’t perfect or your GPA is below Barnard’s average doesn’t mean that you’ll get rejected. Granted, that’s a double-edged sword because you can have perfect grades and SATs without a guarantee of acceptance, but Barnard is definitely not a numbers school. While they do place a lot of importance on grades they first and foremost want students who will love the school, who will be a good fit in the community, and who will take advantage of all that the school has to offer. Just make sure to show lots of continued interest because they really do place a lot of importance on that (hence the huge percentages of their classes that are ED - over 40% of the Class of 2016 has already been filled up by ED admits and I believe the number was similar last year).

Best of luck to all of you - I have no doubt that you’re all very strong applicants and that you’ll end up somewhere fantastic, even if it isn’t Barnard.

Thanks for the encouragement, amurd927! You just reaffirmed everything I believe to be true about Barnard! I would’ve applied ED if financial aid weren’t an issue :frowning: It’s definitely my top choice, and I really think (hope!) that I conveyed that in my supplements. Hopefully we’ll all meet each other next year!

LOL that some of my supplements approached 2000 characters and were veritably half a page, single spaced? I was a little gushy but writing is my strong suit—I hope they don’t think I’m incapable of limiting a response or following directions, and that my love for Barnard really translated on the page. Thinking about getting rejected makes me physically ill.

Hahaha same here!! Mine were kind of long

Oh no… I just looked through all my Barnard supplements and realized I used the same beginning sentence for two of them! They’re two completely different supplements but I sorta recycled one of them from another college’s supplement and overlooked the fact that it had the same beginning sentence hook. What do I do?!

@Laughingly There’s nothing you can do at this point but relax. We finished the application. Now all we have to do is enjoy our senior year and wait to hear what our “fate” is. I highly doubt that the repetition of an introductory sentence will determine whether you get in or not. It’s a minor detail that will likely be overlooked or quickly forgotten.

Hi ladies,
I was just wondering if anyone else hasn’t received their password for application tracking yet?
I submitted my app on the 29th of December and the email still hasn’t come  So I’m kind of freaking out…

btw my stats are: SAT I: 2130,2160 (2220 superscore: 760 M 700 CR 760 W), SAT II: Biology 700, Math IIC 690…International, school does not do GPA, predicted 38 in IB Diploma. Good ECs, really happy with my essays.

Hello RD dears. Thought I’d check in and do some shameless promulgating. Myself, another first year, and a mysterious-possibly-senior-year trio of girls have started Barnard blogs on tumblr. Some pictures, some funny things we’ve seen, lots of happy times and such. If you have any questions, feel free to ask us.

@ lioness26 - I haven’t received a password or tracking number either, and I submitted my app around the same time. Maybe they’re still filing apps? Who knows. In any case, it’s good to hear that I’m not the only one still waiting for confirmation!

@ LadyStumble - Thanks for the links! Very cool.

We just received the password on Jan 30 and yet the page doesn’t display the latest info such as recommendation and transcript received… As long as they have the application, it will be updated sometime.

Did anyone else submit a performing arts supplement? Any idea whether they actually look at that? How it plays into admissions?

Hey, anyone hear back from any other of the sisters? I received a likely from Wellesley and was admitted early to Smith, but the more I think about Barnard, the more I want to go there. Anyone else in the same boat?

itdoesdeath, I’m betting that Barnard doesn’t feel the need to do what Wellesley and Smith do to attract applicants, cause it has the lowest admit rate of the Seven Sisters and also the most desirable (though this is certainly debatable) location. Just speculation, of course :P

yeah, I completely understand why they wait until late march/april to send out decisions, I was just wondering if anyone else was trying to decide between Barnard and Wellesley.

Lol sorry, I misread your post. I got a likely from Wellesley and was admitted to Smith early as well, and Smith and Barnard are both among my top choices, so we’re in similar situations!
