Well, I’ve seen this done for other colleges, so I thought, “Why not Barnard?” I think it would be nice to know who else could be part of the Class of 2009, and we could be a support group for each other when decisions come out (gasp! in about a month!)…

So, everyone post their username, state, and potential major! I’ll start.

Whoever’s next will just copy and paste my info into a reply, then add their own, and so on!

crosses her fingers Good luck to everyone! I want April 1st to come NOW! :)

aww, i may want to double major, depending on how much i can handle. as for combining--i'm not sure. doesn't that make it into a completely new subject of study?

It can but doesn't have to. I chose to take all of the pure math courses instead of the applied analysis and electives. It's a full economics major, plus (pure) linear algebra, a harder prob & stats class, your choice of an analysis class (pure or optimization), and two upper level math electives. You can take something like modern algebra if you want, or a financial methods class.

It's a great option both for someone who, like me, didn't have time to finish a full math major, or for someone who wants to go into a heavily quantitative field of economics (like finance or IB) but hates abstract math. The most common goals of econ-math majors are grad school or the financial world.

i'm not sure i'm a good theory type person--i just know i'm just stronger at math. i guess i'll have to expose myself to different types of majors and decide from there. thanks so much for the info!

snail mail, I think. I'd rather have it by e-mail, though. That means I won't be running home to check my mailbox and fighting with my mom about who gets to open the envelope :)

oh, bronzedgoddess, I know what you mean. At first I wasn't sure where I wanted to go, but just last week I went to visit a class, and that just sealed the deal.

I hope that it comes in a big envelope. It would be scary if they sent out all letters, rejections or acceptances, in the same size envelope.

chiaroscuro---what class did you go to? I visited the campus and really really liked it-even though it was pouring and I had a skirt and sandals on!

I hope so, too! But some schools send out acceptances in thin envelopes with just the acceptance letter in them. They send the financial aid stuff, et cetera, in another mailing.

I visited a literature class last Thursday (I live nearby). It was AMAZING, and it really intrigued me since I want to major in English. The students were talking about these different short stories, and it made me want to take the class ASAP if I get into Barnard! What surprised me were the number of guys (from Columbia, obviously) in the class. In a class with about 30 girls, there were at least 5 or 6 guys. I mean, that's not a lot if you think about it, but that's a pretty large portion for an all girls' school. I don't know about you, but I need to have some guys around, if only for eye-candy purposes ;)

Yep, it's my first choice, my second choice is NYU, and I've already been accepted into its GSP program. Hopefully with acceptance and finaid-wise, Barnard will make the decision for me. Good luck!

I applied to NYU, too, but it's not my first choice, mainly because of the financial aid issue (they're notoriously stingy with grants and scholarships).

I like Barnard's location more, though. It's not in the hustle and bustle of Greenwich Village, like NYU is. Morningside Heights is pretty subdued and quiet, for an urban environment!

Girls, I am getting sooooooooo anxious about April 1st! How are the rest of you handling the suspense? I'm not handling it well at all :)
