Just got rejected by my safety and wait-listed from another

Things are not looking good… but trying to be optimistic the school I got waitlisted for was by far much MUCH more of a reach than the one I got rejected from.

im sorry @ellomeno what schools?

Pepperdine & Reed

im sorry well hopefully we will all get good news from barnard!

I’ve emailed the barnard admissions at their general admissions address about the application fee problem. they have yet to reply me. I’m not sure if I should go ahead and email(again. i did so 2 weeks ago) the person in charge of transfers or let this thing drag on a bit more.

ellomeno: there are waitlists for transfers too? well I guess i learn something new every single day. i’m hopeful for you too. maybe it’s a trend? rejected at safety, waitlisted at another then accepted at reach/dream school?

sarahjojojo: yeah. i really hope everyone here gets good news from barnard. I want to know sooner though.this is very unsettling.

Again, give them a CALL (not e-mail) to ask your question.

We should be hearing back soon- I am guessing by next week maybe

crosses fingers

I did call them. was told not to worry. if i’d like, they’ll pass me the email of the person in charge of transfers and I can get her.

next week? You mean last week of april?

I bet we hear a little later than next week, but it’ll definitely be soon. The Barnard website (or maybe Facebook? I forget where I saw it…) says that transfers should know by mid-May, so I’m expecting to hear in about three weeks. Of course, I’d be ecstatic if I heard earlier…it’s so stressful waiting Fingers crossed that we all get positive news!

three weeks sounds more true. or hopefully 2.5 weeks ;)

I visited Barnard and now my fingers are crossed! I hope we all hear good news and soon!

does anyone know the rankings of like LAC on the east coast for transfers? it feels as if there is no shot for transfers… anymore especially in this economy and how schools are dropping their admittance rates.

Rankings like US News rankings? I would think that those would be pretty much the same, since, though they do depend somewhat on acceptance rate, the rankings are also based on things like retention rates, resources and endowment, etc. But if we’re talking strictly about acceptance rates, I have no idea. Most of the schools I applied to have an acceptance rate for transfers that’s somewhere around 10 percent less that the acceptance rate for freshman.

I know that doesn’t work for all colleges (Mount Holyoke accepts about the same percent of transfers and freshman), but I think you can probably guess that the transfer acceptance rate is going to be lower – but not drastically lower – than the freshman admit rate. I can’t really think of a school that admits, like, 50% of freshman but only 2% of transfers, you know? And, in the same vein, I can’t think of a school that accepts 10% of freshman, but 50% of transfers.

I would think that the best indicator of how difficult a school is to get into is looking at how difficult freshman admissions are. My state school is really easy to get into as a freshman, and really easy to get into as a transfer, while Pomona and Harvard, for example, are hard to get into as freshmen, and hard to get into as a transfer.

Of course, I don’t really know anything…I’m just guessing based on acceptance rates released by colleges. Maybe colleges that seem to have high transfer acceptance rates get really good candidates, so it’s more competitive than it appears (or vice versa). If someone has any concrete data or stories or whatever, count me as interested.

And I’m with you ellomeno! It feels like transfer acceptance is impossible sometimes. But obviously thousands of students transfer successfully every year, so I’m optimistic for all of us (both in regards to Barnard and just in general that we’ll all be somewhere we like next fall) :)

I hope so. All I can think of right now is barnard barnard barnard!

I’m a Barnard grad–class of 1996. Just wanted to wish you guys luck. You’ll love Barnard–it’s a great school!

Just got accepted for Fall transfer!! I had asked for early notification because another school wanted my deposit. Apparently they sent out the first round today!!! Probably for anybody who requested early notification.

Good luck everybody!!! :D

Seriously? Congratulations! I’m incredibly, incredibly excited for you! (And for the rest of us, since at least some people should be hearing soon.) Again, congrats!

How is financial aid for transfers?

@time4transfer how where you able to ask for early notification?
I wish I knew about that

and please post your stats and which school you applied to

the reason they gave me early notification was because Smith College asked me for a decision and deposit by May 1… so Barnard was kind enough to let me know…
