I got in to Barnard and USC Annenberg school for communications (which seems to be a great school) and now I’m deciding between these two…
I am not necessarily majoring in communications…I think econ, ir, political science are all possible…

I think for Barnard, I think it has stricter education, greater resource and classes at columbia, more opportunities at NYC, and better atmosphere…
But my concerns are the size of the school, and the relationship with columbia students…

For USC, I think the pros are Annenberg - the school I got in, excellent network, intern opportunities and the weather.
My concerns are horrible environment and students…(rich, partying…etc.)

What do you guys think?
Any suggestions?
Thank you very much~

You really can’t go wrong either way. Both of my daughters, social girls, chose Barnard. I think that the difference of New York is part of the attraction. It seems as if on the plane to NYC most of the college students were easterners on their way home. My children and nieces and nephews have friends at USC.
I would say that your initial assessment is at least partially true: B/C is a more seriously academic place. USC has come a long way since I was applying and there are some seriously academic people there, including the friends of our children, but it isn’t quite the same. The faculty is very good in both places. I would visit both schools and go with how I felt. You’re going to spend four years, so make sure that you like it. Many California students with whom I spoke chose to go East for college because they wanted to live in California when they were done, and college is a finite period of time.

Thank you very much!
I live in CT and I think I’m going to the open house for barnard on the 16th and local reception for USC on the 9th…But I just feel like I should make a decision asap in order to get a good room if i’m going to usc (said my friend hahaha)…So if they are that similar academically, I guess this decision is even harder to make haha

You can sign up for a dorm room before you officially accept USC. I think you pay something like $30 which you lose if you don’t actually go but that’s minimal.
