Any current students out there…do you buy your books at Barnes and Noble???

You can order on line and if you request used books you'll willl save money. Although they may run out of some used books depending on how soon you put your order in. They box them up for you and you can just pick them up on move in weekend.

So would asking for Barnes and Noble gift cards for graduation gifts be the way to go????

That is an excellent idea. There are web sites where you can find cheaper books, like half.com. Our S never got it together to pursue that but many students get good deals on-line and save more than they would at B&N.

yes, the gift card would be nice.

personally i only buy a few books there. most can be found online at a cheaper price. some, after the shipping and handling, are about equal online and at the barnes and noble. barnes and noble then becomes the more convenient option.

buying textbooks online is so much cheaper. i bought my physics book for 60 online and sold it for 75 last week. most college textbooks are anywhere from 100-200 each.

Does Barnes and Nobles buy the used textbooks back from students at the end of the year? If so, will they take them back if you bought them elsewhere originally? (This helped me recycle my spending money when I was in college, especially those books that are not in your field and just add weight everytime you have to move.)

B&N does take back used books; however, I've been told that they do not give prices better than the trucks on Comm Ave.

Since they have no way to tell where you purchased the book, they will take back books purchased elsewhere assuming they sell the same version of the book (if B&N is looking for some special bundle and you bought the textbook independently, you're out of luck).

Freshman year I spent over $900 dollars on brand new course books ordered through B&N, and at the end of the semester, I sold them back and recieved a measly $190 bucks. I wasn't suprised though, I was warned by upperclassmen about this.

Keep in mind, the books lists provided to you on the student link over the summer only give you the name and title of the books you will need for your classes, however they fail to provide you with the ISBN numbers of the particular books, which can lead you to purchase wrong versions if you so choose to go the half.com, or internet route. B&N offers you the opportunity to purchase your books online during the summer, like a pre-order, or you can wait till you arrive on campus in sept. to go to the store and pick up the books yourself. I HIGHLY recommend that if you are planning to purchase your books through B&N, that you pre-order the textbooks online during the summer, since
1. it doesnt cost anymore than going into the store (assuming you choose to do a store pick-up, instead of having them shipped home to you)
2. You get first dibs on used books, which are cheaper priced
3. you save yourself the hasle of habing to go into B&N in sept and wander the aisles of textbooks trying to find exactly the one for your class, and having to wait i loooong lines at the checkout counter.

Thanks go BU! We will look at ordering online.
