What do you guys think?

It’s really close. I’d say that your GPA is low (although I can’t be sure, because Barrett doesn’t consider weighted GPA, they only consider what is called an ABOR GPA, which is essentially your unweighted GPA but a little different) and your ACT is definitely on the lower side. The other thing you have going against you is that it’s clear that you are good at English and writing, but the other subjects bring you down. If you write a killer essay you’re not out of the running though.

Okay, thank you. Im still going to go to ASU even if I don’t get in to Barrett but I thought I would consider applying. I’m anticipating on a 3.8-3.9 weighted gpa after 1st semester senior year, do you think applying early action/decision would help my chances? Also, if I don’t get into Barrett freshman year could I transfer into it the next year?

Do you know when early admission deadline is, approximately?

I can’t stress it enough, apply early decision/priority!! Spots in Barrett fill up very fast, and I know of many people with great stats that didn’t get in because they waited until the regular deadline. For example, a girl with a 4.0 in non honors/ap classes and a 1700 SAT score got into Barrett last year, and my school valedictorian did not. Guess which one applied at the priority deadline?

^^ I second what ctate94 said; apply as early as you can. Barrett is getting more and more competitive every year.

^^ Does this just mean to apply as early as possible, or do you have to accept or decide by early decision? I have been advised by my counselors not to accept for early decision because it limits the offers you can get from schools, but Barrett is my top choice right now. Will I be safe as long as I simply apply ASAP?

I don’t believe that Barrett has any type of binding decision, which is likely what your counselors are advising against. Barrett has “rolling admissions” which means they accept students until they’re full. Essentially, the earlier you apply, the more likely you are to earn a spot.

The valedictorian’s score may have factored in too. Smod, do you know if you were accepted now or not? You should, right?
