Hi guys,
So I talked to my admission counselor at ASU around end of March and he told me that I won’t be able to apply for Barrett Honors College for fall 2019, but possibly for spring 2020. But I just talked to someone today who applied at the same time and got in for fall 2019. Would you think I’ll be still able to? Like I’m puzzled that he told me that the application period at that time was over.
My stats are: 3.4 unweighted, 3.8 weighted gpa, 25 ACT, bunch of extracurriculars. Please advise.
I suspect it isn’t about time but qualifications. Honors colleges are usually for the higher stats kids. If there is no minimum criteria then there is probably no actual value in it. Is he offering you the chance to get admitted after semester grades are available? That would be my take.
Barrett is more for 3.7 unweighted/28-30+ ACT.
If you attend ASU, there’s a process for you to get into Barrett with fall grades.
Where else have you been admitted?
Like my overall weighted gpa is a 3.9 rounded up. But like only my ACT is low. I know people with lower gpa scores who have gotten into Barrett too. So I was confused why he said applications were done at the moment…?
I’ve committed to ASU for the BS in Finance degree. But like I asked for applying to the Barrett Honors College and he said applications were done when I contacted my counselor in March. Like my weighted gpa is good, especially if accounting for senior year’s grades.
Unless you know otherwise, your UW gpa is going to be used. HC is there to differentiate and reward and attract the higher achievers. That is the point of HCs. I assume you have done the groundwork, as a potential HC applicant?

“. For high school seniors, the average unweighted high school GPA for the fall 2018 incoming class was 3.8, the average composite score on the SAT was 1350, and the average composite ACT score was 29.”

@shahk3949 - There is usually a cutoff for Barrett admissions. If it is what you want, contact their recruiting office now to get advice on how to position yourself to apply with your freshman grades. In the past 2 years there has been a waitlist for Barrett.
Grammar note - you might want to stop using ‘like’ in your written dialogue. Reread a few of your posts. They sound like you are speaking, not writing a note. In post #4 you said “Like my weighted gpa is good…” You should have said something like “I feel my weighted GPA is good…”
