Intended major: medical studies (phoenix campus), “premed track”

You look good to me. The median ACT is 28.6 and the rest of your stats look great. Have you visited yet? We have toured a couple of times with our sons and have been very impressed.

@Beaudreau‌ Thank you very much. This is my dream school but due to the financial burden, I would only be able to attend if I get accepted into Barrett as well (I’m OOS). Also, yes I have visited. I recently spent a week on the Phoenix campus for a health institute run by the College of Health Solutions. I fell in love!! I’m very impressed with the improvements ASU is making downtown as well as in Tempe. Best of luck to your sons! Are they applying in this admissions cycle?

@wrongturn88. My oldest son was accepted at Barrett, but is starting at Texas A&M this fall as an aerospace engineering major. He just graduated from BASIS Scottsdale Charter School, US News’ 2nd rated US high school. Of the 35 in his graduating class, 11 are going to ASU/Barrett including the valedictorian. 3 are going to Stanford, 3 to Brown, 1 to Harvard, 1 to Duke, 1 to Amherst, 1 to Cal Berkeley, and the rest to other very good schools. I know several other BASIS grads from earlier years and all of them love it at Barrett.

My second son is a rising senior like you. He is at BASIS Scottsdale. He spent a week in the Barrett dorms this summer for the ASU Summer Engineering Experience. He will be applying to Barrett, along with several other schools, including the Michigan State Honors College, and some smaller private schools. (I’m an MSU graduate/Michigan MBA)

My third son is a rising junior at BASIS Scottsdale. He is most interested in Barrett and Texas A&M.

Did you tour Barrett while you were in Phoenix?

Did you run the merit scholarship estimator? https://scholarships.asu.edu/estimator</a></p>

It sounds like you may be interested in pre-med. Barrett partners with the local Mayo Clinic to offer the pre-medical scholars program.
http://www.mayoclinic.org/documents/mc1638-0209p6-pdf/doc-20078869</a> Barrett graduates are going to the top medical schools in the country.

I’m sure that you also saw the new University of Arizona med-school in downtown Phoenix. ASU is also moving its law school downtown.

Good luck to you in your college applications.

I got in! :)

@wrongturn88 Congratulations!

@Beaudreau‌ I really don’t mean to hijack this thread, but no one responds to other posts about Barrett, so I thought I’d post on this one to help increase my chance of hearing a response. Please chance me

Rank: 1/187 (Valedictorian)
GPA (UW): 4.0
SAT: 1850

I am out-of-state and took honors classes during my first two years of high school, then did full-time at the local community college for my junior and senior year (dual-enrollment).

ECs:
Student Body President of Community College I attend (Selected, paid position), 1 year
College Committee, 1 year
Member of city’s citizen advisory board, 3.5 years
Sunday School teacher, 1 year
Tutor in Chemistry, English, History, and Public Speaking, 1 year
Speech and Debate, 1 year with multiple titles and 2nd place at state competition

I will have over 100 college credits by the time I graduate in June. I have been taking GERs and am now completing the general chemistry sequence. I have taken a minimum of 15 credits each quarter, and have received a 4.0 in every one. I know that my SAT score is low for Barrett, but I thought that the rest of my application could possibly make up for it.

Thanks!

@wannabeivy3‌, I think you have a really good chance! Your class rank and gpa are excellent, as well as all the college credits you’ve earned. Like you said, your SAT is a little low for Barrett, but remember the scores they post are just AVERAGES, so 50% of admitted students have scores lower than what they post. What is your Critical Reading + Math score? I believe those are the only 2 SAT scores ASU looks at any way. Good luck! PS. I also applied and want to get into Barrett.

Thanks, @Nirvana97‌! My CR + Math score is 1200. Thanks for the reassuring advice.

No problem @wannabeivy3! I think you SHOULD be fine with a 1200, but if you hypothetically don’t get in early action, you can always re-take the SATs or attempt the ACT and apply regular decision.
I scored a 1250 the first time I took the SAT but got a 1310 the second time just from using the “don’t know, don’t answer” technique. I also tried the ACT and got a 30, which is statistically better than my SAT score.
Good luck and let me know when you find out!
