I am in the top 4% of my graduating class with an act score of a 23 as well as a 3.8 unweighted gpa. Shockingly, I received an acceptance letter from Barrett, the Honors College awhile back. According to my counselors, Barrett is pretty strict when it comes to accepting students into the program. So far, has anyone been accepted/rejected from Barrett(please include your current ACT/SAT, GPA, Ranking, etc)? If you were accepted, are you considering Barrett and why? Also for those who are in Barrett, how different is Barrett from regular ASU?
I am not a student, but am pretty familiar with ASU/Barrett. I hate to let good questions go unanswered for too long… Barrett is pretty awesome! My kids go to one of the top high schools in the U.S. and about 1/4 of the graduates are at Barrett. Everyone that I’ve talked to there or asked their parents about, loves Barrett. In-state tuition and good scholarships for high achievers certainly help.
Last time I checked, the 25%/75% ACT range for ASU was 22/28. The Barrett average is 29. The facilities are incredible. It is a campus within the huge ASU campus, and only Barrett students have access to the dorms and to most facilities. At night, it’s actually gated off. The Barrett campus has its own cafeteria (very good food!), own dormitories, own work-out facilities, own lounge, and dedicated honors classrooms. Barrett has done extremely well with employment, graduate-school, and professional (medicine, law) placement.
ACT: 34
SAT:1440 M+CR or 2240 M+CR+W
GPA: 5.38/5.0 (Weighted) or 4.81/5.0 (Non-weighted)
Class rank: 29/674 (Weighted) or 51/674 (Non-weighted)
Accepted!
I started looking into Barrett because they offered me a full tuition+fees scholarship ($25,503 a year) for all four years of my undergrad studies due to me being a National Hispanic Recognition Scholar. Obviously this is a huge deal, and even though ASU wasn’t a school I was looking at I decided to see what the Honors college was all about. I visited March 1, 2015 and it exceeded all of my expectations in quality of curriculum and the general aspects of the school. Plus, the fact that Barrett has its own (pretty large)dorms, dining hall, exercise facility, and (free) washing machines/dryers is great for me. Plus, being from the Chicago suburbs makes the eternal warmth look extra-nice. Now it is a serious contender in my college search.
I hope this info helps!
@DaughterOfCoul I’m glad you enjoyed your visit!
Hello,
My Academic Stats aren’t great, but my extracurricular are excellent.
ACT: 25
SAT1:1280
SAT2:1200
SAT3:1290
GPA:3.34 Unweighted
GPA:4.1 Weighted
Class Rank: 56/620
All of my core classes were either AP or honors though.
As Beaudreau mentioned above, the facilities are world-class and are quite impressive. However, I will be attending Barrett because it creates well-rounded individuals that can speak intelligently. The program includes various honors classes and small classroom settings. They have provide a fantastic faculty base to help students succeed as well.
I was accepted about two months ago and am currently in the process of completing my housing application for Barrett. Hope to see you there.
@EM1532 Congratulations! May I ask what scholarship you received from ASU?
@Beaudreau Wow, that’s amazing! Do you happen to know anything about WP Carey?
Not much. Nice facilities, close to Barrett. Supply chain managent is top 2 or 3 in the world.
