Barron's 2400 Perfect Scoring Book

Well, I got a 1300 on my SAT and I really want a HIGHER score. So I went to Borders and bought the book for like 15 dollars. Would this book help me? I am planning on working on it for 3-4 hours every day.

No. It’s good for people who’s score is 2000+. It helps to answer those last few questions.

2weeks ago I was 1300 now I’m strong 1500+. Why? Because I increased my Math.

Do not listen to Suleyman; he is uninformed, and each of his comments, spurious at best.

koreankd1//do you mean 1300/1600, or 1300/2400?

Hopefully 1300/1600. I doubt its 1300/2400.

To understand how you can improve, we would need to see the full breakdown.

Actually, 1300/2400… Ive studied for it, but Standardized Test is just my weak point. I really need help with this.

Suleyman95 is really irritating. I wish the moderators would ban him.

Anyone? help please

What did he do?

Barron’s 2400 was one of two books I used to study for the SAT (the other being the official College Board book) and I scored well (760 M, 750 W, 790 CR). Unfortunately, I cannot tell you how much it improved my score as I only took the SAT once.

IMO it is most helpful for Math.

the 2400 book hasn’t been very helpful, try the Gruber’s Guide to the SATs. That helps a lot more. It gives you strategies for EVERY type of question :D

you might want to consider taking an SAT prep class such as princeton or kaplan, otherwise just read the collegeboard bluebook and study hard, and you should go up. Good luck!

About Suleyman, keep in mind I browse this forum infrequently, but from what I’ve seen his comments seem really uninformed (but I think he’s not from the US). And it’s irritating to see the same kind of uninformed answers even after people inform him.

As for improving your score, use Silverturtle’s guide for Grammar, and go back to the basics for Math (Use a textbook or something to go over Geometry and Algebra) with Gruber’s Math Workbook as a supplement. As for Critical Reading get Direct Hits Volumes 1 and 2 for strengthening vocab, and the Blue Book to work out of for all of the above. Your score should go up relatively fast if you study hard from these until you get to the 1900/2000ish when it gets a bit harder to raise your score.

Ok. Where can I find this ‘Gruber’s Guide to the SATs’ and for hoe much? And I also did a prep from Princton Review. It was like a 4 week class, but they just crammed everything into my head.

And where can I find Silverturtle’s guide for grammar and Gruber’s Math Workbook, and also Direct Hits Vol. 1 and 2 and the Blue book?

All are available on Amazon, I believe. The Blue Book is The Official SAT Study Guide.

Sulleyman is getting really obnoxious. He gives useless information at best (probably misguided information). Also, his posts are barely understandable.

Almost all those books are available on amazon. I believe I saw Grubers Workbook at Barnes and Noble. Silverturtle’s guide is stickied on the SAT forums.

*cross posted with silverturtle.

He’s a little obnoxious and perhaps a little misinformed. In the end he’s just giving his own opinion. His posts are understandable, they just aren’t perfect english.

No real reason to constantly bash him. Correct him, if do anything at all

Well… I’ll answer the OP’s original question.

I haven’t found Barron’s to be helpful in Critical Reading and Writing; I used Grammatix and Rocket Review, but I think what you need are QAS’s, or previously administered SAT exams released in January, May and October. I think that contributed to my big jump from 2050 to 2300’s.

^Wow Rocket review is really expensive ( and that too in amazon)!! Where did you get your copy from? o.o

^Uh I bought it at Amazon (used one) when the book was cheap.
Anyhow, not having a RR won’t matter that much. It only helped me on Grammar, the stuff that everyone can be good at with a bit of practice. I think the CR is difficult for most CC’ers, no? Grammatix is fantastic for CR and Writing, by the way. I benefited a lot from its strategies; however, Grammatix does not do a good job in Math. Partly because math cannot be “cracked” by test-takers. IMHO Math DOES require years of practice + solid schoolwork.
