Does Barron’s ACT 36 truly help get a score in the high 30’s? I realize that it’s all based upon self study and how much time one wants to put into it. But is it worth getting, in-order to prepare for Septembers ACT?
I used “The Real ACT” prep book and got a 34 on my first try, so you could look into that one.
@WindyCityKid I’m probably going to use “The Real ACT Prep Book” paired with “Barron’s 36”. Can I ask you for some of your study tips?
In my opinion, all the ACT/SAT prep books suffice. None are necessarily “bad”. I however used The Real ACT Prep Guide Book. Whether i had chosen this or another one wouldnt have mattered since they arent meant to increase your intellect, mainly just to study the test itself. I got a 32 on the ACT with that book. And as for personal taste, Barron’s is too wordy for me, i prefer my review books to be concise and to the point.
@Dylan197 What I did was take a few practice tests, assess my weaknesses, study those sections harder (reviewing tests I’d already done) and then in the week leading up to the ACT I took a couple more full practice tests. Surprisingly I was getting 30/31 on the practice tests but that was not indicative of my real ACT score.
@Stradivarius64 How long did you study before taking the test?
@WindyCityKid I have come to see that the tests provided in the “Real ACT Prep Guide” are easier than the real thing. Is that the same thing that came out to you as well?
@Dylan197 I heavily procastinate when it comes to studying so… less than a week. Just a few days to know what i was getting myself into.
@Stradivarius64 luckily I’m just now studying and it’s still 3 months before the testing lol
@Dylan197 Take advantage of that time lol, i always wish i did. May i ask what grade you are in and what universities you aspire to attend?
@Stradivarius64 I am going to be a Junior in the fall and I am determined to go to Northwestern, Upenn, or Harvard for their econ program.
@Dylan197 OH awesome! I was admitted to Harvard this year for the class of 2019, and was waitlisted at UPenn (weird right? Lol). If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
I thought it was the opposite quite honestly.
Well, if that’s the case then I will be happy come test day. I have been receiving high 30’s on my practice tests! B-)
what is the ACT score in order to get into Northwestern?
@skykch 29- 25th percentile
33- 75th percentile
