I bought the Barron's 2009 Lit book to study for the october sat subject test I am taking. Is this book okay if Im looking for a good score (preferably 730+)? I did pretty well on CR/W on SAT reasoning but I'm a little nervous about poetry. Thanks!

I personally do not have experience with Barron's, but concerning the Literature test, as long as you take a lot of practice tests, I'm sure you will be fine. Practice is the most important thing. Shift your way of thinking to College Board's!

^ I would say being an avid reader is FAR more important than practice. but obviously, it's too late now to start becoming a good reader, so practice is the next best thing, I suppose.

Case in point, I made an 800 on Lit without ever answering a single prep question. How? I've been reading Homer since I was 10. Who'da thunk it? Great literature is the best preparation for a Literature test!

So for all those out there who are wondering "Hmm...I love to read great books and glean all of the thematic marrow out of them, but I dislike buying copious amounts of prep material. How will I do??"

My answer: Just fiiiiiiiiine. :)

yes barron's is a good prep book for lit. i went through the whole book and got a good score

Thank you veryyyyy much hookem168 , cause im just like you and i was little bit dubious ! That's really encouraging!

I'm using Barron's SAT Lit book also, but I've heard from several sources that Barron's tests more on the technical knowledge than the actual ones...? I am not an avid reader AT ALL so I'm hoping it'll do the magic for me.
But so far it seems pretty good; I'm through the first two sections.

this sounds like a facebook group title:

You know you're an avid reader when you take the SAT II Lit...and enjoy it!

yes, I actually got a kick out of that test haha

Yeah I also enjoy doing the practice tests :P
