Barron's Literature vs. Actual

Anyone have any experience with this? I need to know where I'm at.

anyone? 10char

I've heard that they are much more difficult than the real thing, so you can probably expect a slightly higher score.

Ok, thanks. anyone else?

i just took a practice and got 45 raw. my book didn't convert it for me, but someone said that according to cb, it's a 700. i think real one might be easier.

The actual SAT II was much easier than the Barrons prep, but the questions in Barrons are great for acclimating you to the general feel and content of the test.

^thanks. Is the real thing as subjective as barrons? Does it have a lot of lit vocab?

The CB book test I took did test nearly as much technical stuff as Barrons does.

Also, there is no "subjective" in the test. You can't make up your own interpretations...just like the CR on the SATI. Use exactly what's provided in the test and no more.

Mmm I took a Barron's test just for fun the night before my real test. I think I got in the 600s or something. Definitely low 700s or lower. (I don't remember if my book had a conversion chart or if I found one online.) I wasn't worried because I could tell how ambiguous the questions were, and although Lit is inherently subjective to an extent, I knew that CB would be better at coming up with questions with clear-cut answers. Got 780 on the real thing; thought it was pretty easy.

As for vocab -- yeah, you have to know some stuff, but nothing super-obscure. If you've taken the English Language or English Literature AP test, you're in really good shape for vocab.

Can anyone give any exaples of vocab which might be on the test?

Simile, metaphor, apostrophe, alliteration, personification are the big ones.

now that i've taken the CB test, I conclude that Barron's is horrible.

Barrons...too much knowledge.

Tests may help you develop analytic skills though, if you don't already have them.

my english teacher looked at the barron's and she really liked it. ditto for chem when i showed it to my chem teacher.

Barron's was great to build up my reading skills but terrible practice tests.

Kaplan was much better, although nothing compares with the ridiculous wording of the CB!!! LOL
