Barron's Math II practice tests--how long did it take you?

Did you guys actually manage to finish any practice test in Barron's Math II book in one hour? I consistently find myself going 20-30 minutes overboard... :(

Also, many people say that a 650-700s Barron's score may well translate into an 800 on the real thing. Are those 650-700s scores achieved by tallying up only what you finished in an hour or have you included "overtime" points in your score?

Barron’s is not difficult to finish well under the time, depending on mathematical prowess; though I come from Australia, where high school maths is a bit more advanced than most American high school maths, I found the tests relatively straightforward. It is certainly true however, that as long as you can do a fair few of the Barron’s questions, you should be well set for the real thing (the fact that you can get around 700 in the Barron’s tests, regardless of over time or not, means you have the mathematical ability to do reasonably well).

With the “overtime,” I score mainly 760-780 on Barron’s tests.
Without the “overtime,” I hover around 700.
My “overtime” scores tell me that I know the material adequately, but
even though my “normal time” score falls within the “potential high score range,” my loss
of points comes from the fact that I simply don’t have time to finish the last ten questions, which leads me to worry if I would be able to finish the actual test on time…
Do Barron’s questions simply take more steps in general?

The scores of 650-700 you have heard of are for the one hour period only. Both your “intime” and “overtime” scores are good for Barron’s.

Good luck!

I got 650-750 in the 1 hour period and 800 in the real thing. Barron’s tests are beasty.

I am barely managing a 630 overall, I cant even do any of the other questions that I leave out… I’d be ok with 700+, do u guys think i should take it or just not do it tmrw?

coffeedrinker, if you’re barely managing a 630 on a barron’s test (in a one hour period), then you’re golden for a 700+ on the actual thing. At least that is the experience of most kids.

Same here. I could barely finish the Barron test even in an hour and half, so I did all my practice tests untimed. I got 650-770 on those Barron practice tests, depending on the amount of time I allotted myself. Got 800 on the actual one. Honestly, after sweating over Barrons for two weeks, the actual SAT MathII was a piece of cake:) I even finished the actual test with time to spare.

I’m getting 670-700s on the Barrons tests. But I only got 710 on the highest for the Collegeboard practice tests… I’m guessing this means that I’m one of the anomalies to this “rule” :/

haha I hope I’m not one of those anomalies… however, I feel like I usually am so I won’t be surprised if I, too, am an exception to the “rule”.

Barrons math 2 was ridiculous I was getting low 600s timed I even got a 590 once. On the real thing I got 770. It was soo much easier. Barrons just discourages you Idk why it’s so popular. And their review sections are real intimidating too. I would not give much importance to barrons practice tests.
