Barron's Math IIC Users!

haha, i just got 25 on my first ever diagnostic test. my formulas were rusty and i didn't answer many questions. a lot of it was from the sharp transtion from sat i to calc. assuming that was your first test too, i think you'll do fine if you continue practicing...

On my first Barron's practice test, I got a raw score of 24. I don't know what that's equivalent to. But the point is, I thoroughly read the book and reread the sections I had trouble on. Eventually, with the help of my Ti-83 and the SAT OS program, I was able to score an 800 on the real thing.

Anyone using the Princeton review one? I am taking it in November, got a 730 on the Sparknotes practice test (kind of a diagnostic...made a bunch of stupid mistakes 38 right, 12 wrong), but decided to go to Borders yesterday and snag a copy of this. Opinions?

karch.. i got 25 as well... I don't know why they are so hard... and also do those barron's ppl expect us to really get their problems in 60 minutes??? and yeah I'm also still adjusting from sat i to satiic heheh! to the people that took the real thing - and got really good scores - how much did you get - raw score in the barrons book? I'm really nervous

I hate this book, and will get another book to study from when I retake the Math IIC in Dec... I don't know, I just get way too discouranged when I can't finish the practice tests and the score comes out really bad. I get so fustrated that I stop taking practice tests, which hurts me in the long run. I'd rather have a more realistic test.

And is the Barron's diagnostic test supposed to be super easy or something? I got a 770~ rawr score for the diagnostic test, but failed miserably on the rest of the tests. Sadly, because I heard the Barron's was supposed to be super hard and stuff, I studied very little after that 770~ on the Barron's... and found out too late that I wasn't prepared. I got a 670 on the real exam last Oct. Gosh, I hate myself : /

SAT OS is horrible. Rather than spending time trying to understand the program, try to understand what the equations mean, and then you will never forget them.

Barrons = crap

They show you unnecessary stuff and lowers your confidence by giving you insanely tough questions. I used the barrons book and only got like a 680. Just ran out of time. On the real deal i got 800. So the margin speaks for itself.

I consider myself a really good math student btw.

So it's crap because the book overprepares you and you get an 800 on the real thing?

I fail to see the logic.

It's not crap. Just use Barron's and you won't go wrong. I promise you.

if you guys got 800 by using the book, wouldn't you say it was somewhat helpful? I mean come on...

I fail to see where I said that I used the book to study...

I said i took the practice test in the barrons book and got a 680 but got 800 on the real thing to show the difference between the real deal and barrons. I used Princeton Review...or i should say i bought the book. Flipped through it and a friend borrowed it from me (never gave it back lol) so i just took the test.

My problem with Barrons is that why bother doing so much more work when you have your plate full already? Sure, if you learn everything in the book, you will get a 800. However think if it is worth it or not when you can do just as well studying from an easier book...one that you can spend less time on. Barrons is way overkill.

Use barrons if you are a Junior, with a ton of time on your hand. Dont use it if you are a Senior and drowning already.

the what do you suggest? I'm a senior and I'm working with the barrons... some other people said that other books are way to easier - that happened to me, i used kapalan and i totally bombed the sat iic :uhg.. waste of money.
is pr or sparknotes any good?

Really depends on how much time you have. If you have a load of time that you are just wasting (i doubt it lol), then use Barrons. Else use Princeton Review. Suggest you get familiar with your calculator as well and maybe even try out a TI-89. Alot of the problems on the test can be done by just punching in numbers.
