<p>I can recall Barron’s being the gold standard for college selection in the 80s. Seems like US News has supplanted their spot.</p>
<p>I agree and I think that is sad. They have really expanded who they rank as most competitive. I can remember when there were only about 30 schools total on the list.</p>
<p>I’m surprised by the inclusion of George Washington University and The College of New Jersey.</p>

<p>That’s because of the push-back they get from fans of colleges that are not listed at first, just as you can see in this thread. All lists of good/best/selective/competitivelife-changing/etc. colleges expand over time.</p>
