Barron's Sat II Chem is Ridiculous

This book is not that great for preparing for the SAT II. First of all , on the practice tests there were these weird experiments with 4 questions following up. It was like some sort of apparatus to separate gases from liquids. I, however, did not see a single one of these questions on the test. Also it mentions so much stuff on organic chemistry that is not even tested. This book has too much extraneous material and its practice tests are horrible.

I am just wondering about other people's views on this book.

I disagree. I got an 800 by simply using the Barron's. The extraneous material all contain some sort of revelance to the actual questions on the test. So you can't say it's just a waste of learning it.

azsxdc

I agree with the above.

It doesn't harm to overprepare.

agreed.....

It's for overachievers. If you don't like how it is just get another publisher's book.

agreed with azsxdc....

I got Barron's. I hope it helps me get an 800. :-D

Eh, I don't think Barron's is necessary. Get Princeton Review. Barrons has TOO MUCH irrelevant stuff.

Seriously, if you know the material and just need to review it all for the SAT II, PR is fine. I took regular honors chem and used PR a year later (without taking AP Chem). I pretty much rushed through the PR book, but ended up with a 760. No doubt you guys are preparing better for it than I did, so you would surely end up with 800s and 790s if you used PR.

Don't waste your time with Barrons for the SAT II.

I got the barrons, did a diagnostic test, got a 760 on that, dropped the book on the bookshelf, chilled, took the actual test, and got a 800. The book make 0% difference in my performance.

Has does Barron's have too much irrelevant information?

A lot of it's simply not on the test. If you were just studying chemistry in general, or AP chem, it'd be great. But it's wasting your time for the SAT II.

but you would rather be overprepared than underprepared and it's not like your stuffing your brain with information you will need ever again, anyway.

Just do Barron's, it's summer time anyway..don't waste this time!

For those who claim they got 800s on the SAT II Chem without using Barron's: good for you. I am simply stating that if you wish to go the safe route and maximize your chances, go with Barron's. That's it.

I agree but in a different way...

Don't spend all your time studying, go and have fun too!

I partially agree with you two. Summer should be used for as much academics as possible. It should also be used to lift weights, run, play basketball and even some ps2 ;) to relax....okay so those are my interests big deal :P

Agreed above. I used Barron's Chem and MathIIC and got both 800s. There were many lab questions in this April's Chem test.

Barron's SAT II Chem book is hard?

I'm no chem expert, but how easier can it be? It seems at an easy-medium level at max.

I seriously suck at chem. Please enlighten me:-D

P.S. I should be happy, but to be honest, I want to gauge myself.

Trust me, use barron's or just study as much as you can whether you use it or not. You don't want to have the disappointing reality a week before your test that you could have studied harder..
