barrons sat math question

if p+p+p/(P)(P)(P)=12 and p>0, what is the value of p. the answer is 1/2, but they say that (P)(P)(P) is p2, why....if you multiply p 3 times, shouldn't p be to the third....very confused* thanks

yeah, ppp is p^3. but the answer is 1/2.

um that didn't help at all....i wanted an explanation on how they could make p^3=psquared.....it doesn't make any sense...and why did you put "is" in asterisks?

You don't have to its a typo.

3p/p^3 = 12
3p = 12p^3
p/p^3 = 4
1/p^2 = 4
1 = 4p^2
1/4 = p^2
p = 1/2

thanks llpitch!
