Barrons USH book?

Is it me, or is this book terrible...

The practice tests are ridiculously hard... and after taking two past USH exams it seems almost half the questions in the book are irrelevent to the actual test.

Idk, i'm just seeing if anyone else has the same feeling as me... and could recommend a better book.

Is it the one with the new look?

I've only taken two practice tests, and I've been getting 45-50/95 so far. That's a 540-600ish on the old CB Book scale.

Maybe Barron's USH is like Barron's IIC. It kicks your butt, but then it pays off if you work with it.

i agree wit tubaman

yea i have that book, it was the only one i could fine, but definetly its way too specific, but i hope that pays off in the end... i think barrons has always been like that with there exams.

I feel the same way. I got a high 500 on the Barrons practice test and a low 700 on the CB book. The questions are just way too random.

collegebound, which curve do you use for Barron's/CB?

I used the old red white blue CB SAT Subject Test book. I know it's only 90 questions, and I've been getting 540-600 on the Barrons' practice test.

Haven't tried CB yet.

Barron's is pretty terrible overall. I used SparkNotes for the U.S. History SAT II. But the thing with Barron's is that if you can do well with it, the real thing is easy, or at least that's what I've heard.

this book is getting on my nerves, and its draining my confidence for this exam... i do super bad on the exams after even reading the entire thing... and i can't find real practice tests

I suggest making a small fire and burning the darn thing. Get a different book, nmehta4. If it's not helping you, get rid of it.

thats the thing averageteen... i don't kno if its helping me or not... the practice tests are hard undoubtedly but i dunno how hard compared to the actual thing.. the review text though actually seems indept.. i guess i would say that the tests in the back are making me really worried... and i want to take a real practice just to know that its really not that tough

nmehta

My barrons scores were 590 610 550 620

My scores from 2 past exams off college board book were 770 and 740...

The book is way to indepth... got me very worried... i was very relieved after taking the real thing

yeah i just took the barrons diagnostic test and got a 600..that test was completely ridiculous

I used Barron's for both Chemistry and Math IIc; I can say it prepared me well. Mid-high 600s on diag. --> 800s on both on test day.

Trust me. It works.

Hm, that's what I thought initially azsxdc...but I think it might be different with history. SO much of the info they provide is of no consequence, I can't see much of it showing up on test day. On the other hand, chem and math are reliant on reasoning, so high-level studying is good prep for basic concept quizzing

AH! 4 days until the test and this book is driving me crazy! I'm getting a range of about 580-640 on the practice tests in barron's. Has anyone taken the test after scoring in this range on barron's and was your score on the real test significantly higher?

Bleh what edition are you all using, I borrowed the 11th edition one from the library, but the only thing it's useful for is the review imho.
The tests seem too random and ridiculous...

I am very screwed for this test. I've finished reading 1/8 of the review material and haven't started on the practice tests.

Wish me luck!
