Hello,
I have bought " how to prepare for the new SAT" and the math questions are very difficult in comparison with the questions from collegeboard.com Free new SAT test. So have anyone else that book and do you experience this the same?
And is the level of the test just as high as Barrons?

Hey

I never liked Barron's because the print sucks :p I'd go with Princeton Review or Kaplan's any day, but that's my opinion... I never got too far with Barron's so can't comment on it's level of difficulty.

i had the barrons prep book for World History SAT II. I got 800. so i guess it was pretty useful. but i dont really know about SAT I. i'd say its better than kaplan

is everything that will be asked at the SAT II World history in the kaplan's preparation book? Or are there a lot questions that you must self interpret

no, its impossible to put all the SAT II WH questions in a book. But once you've got the basic knowledge its not too hard to answer the questions you haven't studied for.
most of the questions are ones that ask you to deduce/interpret things (causes, consequences, results). to score high you basically need a good memory (the syllabus is pretty long) and a logical mind

trinya, in reply to your original question, I'd say go along with Barrons. Collegeoboard gives simple questions to fool you into thinking that the math is easy, but on the real test you'll think the questions are much harder. Barrons gives you a solid foundation that'll make the CB Math look like a piece o' cake.

Let me tell you my experience. All my pals (including me) but CB's Ten Real SATs and we got 800s on all the math tests. Only two of us used Barrons and another tough book and they got 780s on the actual test. i got 710.

THis is the gist: if you're preparing for SAT math, never use CB books. They'll fool you. GO for the real stuff: Kaplan, better still BARRONS. When you get your scores, you'll appreciate the difference it made.

Noooo Jrock. You're saying it's pointless to study off 10 Real SAT's?! It's like the most valuable thing one can have for practice.

hey strix, i'm not saying it's pointless to study 10 Real. i used the book, but one may need to complement it with a harder math practice book.

of course, 10 Real SAT's is only where you'd get REAL questions and the Verbal is tough compared to other books. but for math...

problem with 10 REAL is most of the papers are old and easy, only one or two recent ones, which are tough. 94, 95 and 96 are oh so easy. BUt 2001, 2000, are hard and you don't get much practice with that.

Again 10 REAL gets you used to 6sections while there are actually 7, but Kaplan gives yu 7 so you get used to it. I took the Oct 2004 SAT, the equating section was verbal and it was 35 questions. I never anticipated such stress. Section1 Math, section 2 verbal - 35, section 3 verbal - 35. Horrible!!

I agree...I used 10 reals, and I got consistently 1450+ on the first 5 tests. On the second 5, i got between 1150 and 1300. it ****ed me off cuz i knew i wasted my time so much...

As of Jan 22, the old Real SAT's gets redundant :-/

Barrons can suck my asss
I've got 3 Maths books - kaplan, pr, barron. Barron has useless information and many spelling errors and formula errors. Also, although I am fluent in english, I find that Barron's choice of words are so.. complicated, in comparison to my other books.
Also, in my II writing book, there's many errors with hard wording.
Many people say that, with Barron's high level, you will ace the SAT. But barron's have so much useless info! It's like saying that you studied Algebra 2 so you'll be able to ace beginner's geometry.

Barrons has some errors but the questions are much more difficult than the real ones. But I think that's what we need when we practise. And I admire whoever get a score of 700 in the verbal section.

But the print? Are people okay with the Barrons print?! Maybe it's just in India that we have the ****ty paper

yeah Indian edition looks like its been printed on toilet paper.
Barrons is really tough especially the verbal and there is absolutely no point studying from it. Its better to study from PR. But yeah, I went back to Barrons after PR and 10 Real SATs, got a 1580 in the last test and felt really good.

i like the toilet paper analogy :p

grr sucha...that makes steam from my ears...on the barrons i got a consistent score of 1300...the exams went so bad that they themselves could have been used at toilet paper...btw i bought my barrons book from india and half the pages were still uncut on the edges. so i didnt get enough paper to clean my ass as i expected :(

you should take the bloody galgotias to court for this... injustice
