How long does it take to get from the UCB campus to SF via BART on a weeknight? There are a few concerts I simply cannot justly miss this fall in SF (@ slims, fillmore, etc) and BART is my only means of transportation.

Also, with my last class ending at 5pm, would it be possible to make it to the concourse SF design center by 7pm?

First of all, Slims and the Fillmore are not at BART stops, so you'll need to transfer to a MUNI bus. Well, you could walk to Slims from the Civic Center BART station, but I dunno, I probably wouldn't. I figure it would take 45-60 minutes at least to get to the Fillmore. Whenever I take BART to the Cal campus from the Montgomery Street station around 5pm, it takes about 45 minutes. Figure in walking time plus waiting time.

There is a handy tool on the AC transit or MUNI websites called a Trip Planner. I don't think there is a link to in from the BART site, but it includes BART trips unless you exclude that option.

But yes, you should have plenty of time to get to 7th & Brannan in 2 hours, including a stop at home if necessary.

The schedule I am looking at has times up to around 12:00am (departure) from SF, and arrival times in downtown Berkeley at 12:22am, which would presumptively be the absolute latest I would need anyway.

On a side note, how safe is it to be riding the BART from SF to Berkeley past 12am alone on a weeknight?

I wouldn't really worry about after BART either, actually. You'll presumably be going with friends, and as long as you're aware of your surroundings, there isn't much to be too afraid of.

Ektaylor: You'd probably want to wait for a bus. If you get off at Downtown Berkeley and go up the main escalator instead of any of the side stairs, you're right at the Downtown bus nexus, where ~8 different buses run a route.

You can catch a 51 (hahahahah, as if it runs on any kind of schedule), 7 or 1 to get over there pretty quickly. There are probably other buses, too, but you'd have to check the schedule.

(I note you're probably fine without a bus, since from Jan - Jun of last year I lived alone on College Ave. and frequently went from downtown to my apartment, walking, after 10pm with only 1 problem, which was just some harassment from punk kids.)

BART from Berkeley to Powell Str is about 15 minutes. From there you'll have to walk an additional 5 to 15min depending on the SOMA venue you're going to. The fillmore however is not in SOMA, it is out west and you'll need to take the bus from BART to get there. Plan about an hour from Berkeley.

The walk at night in SOMA is not so bad. There is a rough block or two around 6th St, which is the southern extention of the Tenderloin. This being said, there are lots of kids who walk even there, and frequent popular bars and restaurants like Tu Lan (a popular Vietnamese Chinese dive) or Arrow Bar.

Also, for late night snacks after concerts, the Mission has many fantastic cheap taquerias that are right on the BART line. You can catch a concert, get a burrito at El Farolito or Cancun then take the last BART back to Berkeley.
