Baruch College??

I live in South Jersey. And if you’re talking about my academic info, I posted it on page 2 I think.

you will be paying out of state rates if you want to attend a CUNY. Just up your GPA and you’ll be fine. You have 2 more years

I will say it again, if you are considering majoring in accounting, Baruch isn’t average. It is a VERY good school for accounting. It’s other majors in business aren’t average either but generally do not have the same reputation as the accounting program.

However, if I had to pay “full pay” at Stern vs. In state tuition at Baruch, I would pick Baruch in a heartbeat! Folks here seem to ignore the cost of a school. There is this attitude of cost be damned if the school is a bit more prestigious.

Trust me on this: If you get a very good GPA at Baruch, you will have as many doors open to you as from any other school including Stern and Columbia etc.

^Taxguy is right. Just look at this article, top undergraduate/graduate accounting programs:

http://www.bc.edu/content/dam/files/schools/csom_sites/carroll-capital/2010-02/par_ranking09.pdf</a></p>

Thanks for that list. Pretty interesting. Can I ask how good Finance and Economics are there?

Can I ask too ;)

Also, I’m going to be wayyyyy out of state. Do Out-of staters usually gang up and rent an apartment together or something? And how is placement?

Also, Toshtemirov, is it just me or are all the schools in that ranking public?

^^ I didn’t notice that, but I don’t see any private schools on there.

:( I’ve been hearing ehhhhhh things about their undergrad.
Baruch Grad (particularly that MFE) looks amazing though.
How is the finance program people ;'(

^Like the taxguy said, “if you are considering majoring in accounting, Baruch isn’t average. It is a VERY good school for accounting. It’s other majors in business aren’t average either but generally do not have the same reputation as the accounting program.”

It is true. If you come to Baruch, you will notice that the majority of students are majoring in accounting, for it is the best out of all business programs that Baruch offers. Still, other business programs are good too, but not ranked as high as its accounting program. Personaly, I have seen many students from Baruch who have a degree in finance/economics and are recruited by major companies, such as JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, Robert Half, Goldman Sachs, etc. So, as you can see, their finance and economics programs are pretty decent, but also, the Baruch’s location gives more flavour for employers because it is right in the middle of financial capital of the world, the New York City.

Also, I would like to tell you that my friend graduated from Baruch, and he had the same internships with students from NYU. He felt really good about that because he was paying only 5k per year, and those students 40k. lol However, he was majoring in accounting. But, I know for sure that students in the finance program also have good internships. Moreover, I know many people who are not paying anything at all, for their families have a low income, and they receive a Pell Grant/TAP which covers the whole tuition.

Just out of curiosity, Euroazn and JeremyS, why do you guys want to come to Baruch if you live in other states? Do not get me wrong, Baruch is a good school, but it is not that good to move away from home and family for that. Baruch is well known in New York, but I do not know about other states. Don’t you have good schools in your own state? You know, you will be payin out of state tuition which is 10k, and the living expenses probably would be 20-30k per year–Baruch is not worth it. Unless, you become a state resident and will be getting a TAP/Pell, and even then, it is VERY hard to survive in the NYC, especially when you are alone.

Living expenses are 20-30k? Really?
I know that Baruch now has a dorm; it is only 10k a year.
And out of state tution is still relatively cheap…

But I like the fact that it’s New York…

Hahahahaha. That made me laugh ^^

Unfortunately I live in New Jersey. The only schools I would consider decent are Rutgers and maybe Stockton. Of course there is Princeton, but I am not competitive at all for them.

Unlike other states where you have Florida State, Florida University, Boston College, Boston U, Michigan State, U of Michigan, Virginia Tech, U of Virginia, etc.

I wouldn’t mind going to Penn State, however it is 5 or so hours away… And still several hours from Philadelphia. I’d like to go to school in New York because there are so many businesses there.

And I should be able to get enough financial aid to go there for close to nothing. And I would sure hope I could get the campus housing. If I didn’t get it, I probably wouldn’t go.

Did you think about the Pace University? I know that they have dorms. Unfortunately, Baruch does not offer a campus housing, but it helps students to find affordable appartments. People in NYC, at least, are paying 2k per mounth for rent, which is 24k per year. Obviously, you are not going to pay it by yourself because you can find roommates, but still, you have to eat, have fun, etc.

Guys, check this out:

[Student Housing - Undergraduate Admissions - Baruch College](http://www.baruch.cuny.edu/undergrad/housing.html)

And here are some rankings from their website:

[Baruch by the Numbers](http://www.baruch.cuny.edu/about/bythenumbers/honors.html)

[Baruch College- Housing at 101 Ludlow](http://www.baruch.cuny.edu/studentaffairs/housing/paying.html) So 10-11k per year for housing. + 8k for tuition makes it 18k. Food costs maybe 5k for a year (you can definetely reduce that price. Extraneous stuff and you get 25k per year over all, which is pretty cheap.

This is if you don’t get Maccaulay (spelling?) Honors, which not over covers your tuition but also gives you a macbook + cultural pass.

JeremyS, here is the answer to our question of the quality of finance:
[Ticker - Student as good as Gold](http://www.theticker.org/about/2.8218/student-as-good-as-gold-1.2230144)

“In a school like Baruch, where companies, such as Goldman Sachs do not always recruit, students need to network and meet the right people in order to get noticed.” - this is from the baruch paper itself.

Edit: Although if you get Maccaluay, it is worth looking into.

Euroazn,

Believe me, in New York, everyone knows about Baruch. You are making your decision on one article–then good luck.

I’m not making any decision, but once again - this is the Baruch newspaper. If they are saying something negative about themselves, then its quite unlikely that they are incorrect.

Remember, we’re looking for finance, not accounting. I am sure that accounting is of high quality.
But finance has a different set of standards.
