Alright, thanks.
And opinions on UMCP? Is Baruch better, as it will cost just about the same.

I don’t know enough about UMCP finance program to comment on them. I do know, however, that living in PG county is MUCH cheaper than living in Manhattan. In addition, Baruch is very well known and respected in NY,while UMCP is respected here in Maryland. If you want a job in NY, you are probably better off at Baruch.

Alright, thanks, that’s what I thought.

Taxguy,

Thanks for your response. I think I might move to Florida after I’m done with my bachelors and CPA, and I just wanted to know whether I will be able to find a job there. So, you are saying that people know about Baruch in Florida right?

Also Taxguy, did you visit a new vertical building that Baruch has right now? It is awesome: nice classes, huge library which is open 24/7, new computers, etc. But, many things as you mentioned are still the same, and not only accounting and finance companies know about Baruch, but all students, their parents, and teachers. I really feel fortunate that I have an opportunity to go there :)

Euroazn,

You can laugh at my “advertising” again lol, but I can tell you that Baruch does not need students who do not respect it, or suspicious about it. So, don’t come to Baruch, for personally, I don’t want to meet you there.
And, I don’t get paid for what I’m saying, or for recruiting students like you because I would rather pick someone else.

Alright, mate, thanks for being such a sport.

Was speaking with a friend who posted a finance internship on Baruch’s website, NYU’s website, and Columbia’s career website. She said standard of resumes/covers she was receiving was very noticeable. On average, applications coming from Baruch had less qualified candidates than applicants coming from Columbia or NYU. She ended up taking off the position from Baruch’s website.

She told me that she felt bad because some of her friends came from Baruch and were very bright people but unfortunately when you have so many applications and just 2 positions to fill, you tend to try and limit the number of unqualified resumes you receive. Sometimes its not because the school does not produce smart individuals but because the school as a whole isn’t as good so it can ruin your chances.

commentcomment,

Where did you go to school yourself?

It’s things like this that make me nervous. :S

As you can see, it is a perfectly reasonable suspicion.

Toshtemirov, let everyone attend more expensive options than Baruch yet maybe get the same jobs. You will be laughing in the end.

There are plenty of people who graduate from Harvard and are interning or doing the same job as someone from a CC. It happens. Comparing internships and entry level positions are irrelevant because of the high turnover rate in many professions. You should look at where you want to be in 5-10 years, what positions it is, and do some research on that position. Find out how those people got there, what they majored in, what school they went to, how old they are ect ect.

There is nothing wrong with investing a lot of money in college if you have a clear path of what you want to do in life and how to get there.

If you are unsure and do not know what you want to do or you are not sure if you can achieve it, you are better off going to a cheaper school.

Yes, the people who know about Baruch in Florida are NY “snowbirds”. Those who retired from NYC to Florida so it is doubtful that they are in a position to offer employment.

^Alright, but what about those people who moved to Florida because New York is too expensive?

So what do you guys think, which schools in New York have the best undergraduate business programs? Can you list top 5, based on your opinion or rankings?

The first one would be NYU Stern…then…?

For instance, these are the general rankings, not the business one:

[Top Colleges & Universities in New York | University Web Rankings](http://www.4icu.org/us/New-York.htm)

There is no WAY the general CUNY system is better than SUNY Binghampton.
I mean, select schools in CUNY may be good but the system on average?
Bogus.

Edit: Wait, Baruch is listed here as seperate from CUNY? What is this?
Did they mean Macaulay for CUNY?

^Yeah, I didn’t understand that either. As I noticed, all CUNY colleges are listed separate, but no doubt Baruch is the best out of them. Those rankings are interesting, but it does not matter, since we are all going for business.

That’s a pretty low ranking considering it is only one state though.
After talking to some professionals, I have established that accounting recruiting is good, but finance recruiting is near non-existent. Still, if you network yourself, it’s ok.

I found one more list, and it includes top undergraduate business programs in the U.S. :

[Top US Undergraduate Business Schools](Top US Undergraduate Business Schools)

Baruch is number 60. By the way, I din’t know that Cornell has an undegraduate business program. Still, can’t find it on their website.

UMCP, my state school, is at 17? That is wayyyy too high.
They must be sorting by value [and that’s a legitimate way to sort in it’s own right]

^Your state school generally stands higher than Baruch. I have seen that on many rankings; however, like Taxgy said, if you want to move to New York, then Baruch would be a better choice, since many companies in New York recruit students at local schools.

There are many things i like about this college.
- The tuition is very low, especially for in-state
- Im a business major and this school i heard is really good for business
- Location! Going to college in nyc would be an awesome experience

The only thing that really bothers me is the fact that they have no dorms for their students…i live like 2.5 hours north of nyc so i wud not commute and i mean i deff dont want to live with my parents lol
And since it IS a commuter school, many people have said they have a horrible social scene and hate it. Would it be hard to make friends at CUNY Baruch?
Ohh btw if i do go to Baruch i would be a sophmore transfer.
