Baruch College??

Toshtemirov, can you not still find the undergrad. business major at Cornell? If you haven’t, its under the college of agricultural and life science and the major is called Applied Economics and Management…Cornell is my #1 option but im also considering Baruch obviously lol

Baruch is NOT your normal college and doesn’t give your normal college experience. Like many inner city schools such as NYU, there is no campus per se. There are few teams for sports. In fact, school spirit isn’t what you will find at large sporting schools such as Ohio State or Michigan. However, Manhattan is your campus. Manhattan is a fabulous place to make contacts, sample unbelievable cuisine, and generally breathe in the air of business.Yes, you can make friends at Baruch unless you are a total wonk! However, the school isn’t for everyone. If you want that traditional college experience, don’t go there. Frankly, I wouldn’t trade my time at Baruch for anywhere else.

[Baruch has dorms](http://www.ny1.com/content/top_stories/124210/first-ever-dorms-open-at-baruch-college)

not quite the same, that dorm is pretty far from baruch campus (it’s closer to nyu, and used to be a school of visual arts residence)

^yeah, and it is only for a certain amount of students. I read that it has only spots for 150 students, which is nothing compared to the amount of students studying there.

Whoa, no way is baruch as good as NYU STERN. I go to the honors program at Baruch. Suprising, there are smart students aside from the honors body. My original thought was the the college body is average, I mean look at the stats. But then there are a number of smart students at baruch. In my calc class there were a few smart students, though the rest probably not that smart. I took summer courses, and in the law class, there were a number of good students it seemed.

Yet, I don’t know if doing well is going to do much, as these students can’t just do well and expect to get a good job.

Also to taxguy:

No I would not, the experience at baruch sucks for the most part even in honors program. I would rather pay 15000 to 200000 a year to go to Stern for a better experience. Also going to Stern, you get a much better chance of being successful.

Im in the honors program and with a 3.5 gpa taking honors courses. I definitely am looking to get internships in the summer, have a solid resume with clubs and other things. I worked on wall street before freshmen year for the summer. I heard baruch honors students get high paying jobs if they pass the program. Im not sure, as there is no set data and baruch honors isn’t that well known. I know that I am in good shape if I pass, and should get a decent job. I don’t know anything else.

Baruch is relatively inexpensive compared to other business schools.Other students are cool, many work part or even full time jobs to help with tuition. However, you are definately not considered in the same league as graduates of Wharton. Unless you graduate at the tip top of the class large prestigious firms probably wont come looking for you. In addition, and I believe it is this way in other business schools as well, you don’t really learn business. You learn some “fairy tail” interpretation of business.(remember the business school scene in Rodney Dangerfield’s Back To School). When you enter the real world you will be very suprised.

Baruch? More like BaROKE!

I just started attending Baruch this fall semester as a transfer student. The biggest gripe I have so far is the amount of credits that weren’t transferred from my CC in Maryland, which means I have to spend another year (8 courses) just to take NON-BUSINESS courses in order to graduate, such as science, english, art, etc. Even worse is that they didn’t accept either of my intro accounting courses, which means I basically have to retake the same courses.

I’ll be filing an appeal to the transfer evaluator this week to get this straightened out, hopefully I can get most of the credits to transfer.

Word of advice to anyone thinking of transferring to Baruch as a business major, get an associates in business from your current CC. It’s more “generalized” in required courses and Baruch would’ve been able to transfer most of the credits.

I was set to attend the Univ of Maryland’s Smith School and all my credits would’ve transferred but family issues arose and I had to move to NY.

First, to BaruchHonors:

“I would rather pay 15000 to 200000 a year to go to Stern for a better experience.”

I don’t know about you, but I have no way of going to a $200,000 school.

Anyway, I actually just got back from NYC last night. It was my first time in the city, and I went to visit Baruch. I wasn’t allowed to go into the main area, I just looked around in the book store, athletic center, and the general area of the school. It seemed pretty nice. I understand there are much better schools… I would love to go to NYU. However, I’m 99.9% sure that that will never happens.

For that amount of money, I would rather buy myself a one bedroom appartment in NYC, a sports car, and go to Baruch  (now this is a better experience)

But also to BaruchHonors, what is your major? I have taken the advice posted earlier that any accredited Accounting school will get business opportunities since they have the same exact curriculum.

Look at this link!

[Recruiting Companies — Zicklin School Of Business - Baruch College - CUNY](http://zicklin.baruch.cuny.edu/careers/students/employment/recruit.html)

I believe that’s for Zicklin MBA

No, I read that it is for MBA/MS/PhD students.

But how does graduate recruiting reflect upon the quality of the undergraduate experience? I thought this was a thread discussing Baruch as a u-grad program.

Credit Suisse recruits pretty heavily at Baruch just because it is a block away.

CS does not recruit VERY heavily. Definitely less than some of the other big names.

Many major firms recruit at Baruch including all of the Big 4. Most people don’t realize how connected Baruch is.
