Baseball recruiting info anyone?

No threads seem to be regarding baseball. Can anyone shed any light on baseball recruiting? My son ('11) is interested in Ivies and some smaller D-I schools. There don't seem to be many opportunities to get in front of the coaches to become noticable, especially if you are not a pitcher or catcher. It seems that you have to hope you have a great moment the one time certain coaches happen to be watching at a showcase, etc.
His academics are plenty strong for an Ivy athlete. But even with the individual college profiles filed, you just seem to get nice emails back saying keep up the good work. Any help would be appreciated.

mdstaz,

I replied to one of your other posts. Please PM me on your situation including travel team schedule, showcase schedule, camp schedule, and unofficial visit schedule. I will try to assist.

I will try to give you the benefit of our recent D1, D3 & Ivy baseball recruiting experiences. My 2010 son will be attending Ivy next year. If I do not reply immediately, it is because I’m travelling. Thanks.

Congrats on your son getting in and making it through the baseball process with flying colors.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. My son is a baseball player who will be going to an Ivy next year. It was a long tough road, but a big reward in the end.
If you can get to any showcases I would recommend Headfirst Academic and there is a new one called GPA (grades plus athletics) that looks great. The GPA camp is much smaller and you work one on one with coaches from 7 schools - UPenn, Yale, Cornell, Brown, Georgetown, Richmond, and Wake Forest. I’m not sure where you live, but I have heard the Stanford camp is a huge one for the top schools too.
My other suggestion would be to go to the camps at the specific schools that your son is interested in. He will be able to evaluate how he likes the coach, team, and campus as well as get an indication if there is any interest on their part.

A great baseball site for learning about the recruiting process from parents/players who have been through the wars is the message board section of [High School Baseball Web](http://www.hsbaseballweb.com).

After looking through their threads, ask questions and there will be plenty of well informed answers.

Second stemit’s suggestion to go to the high school baseball web. Start on the general questions forum and then the recruiting forum. Read lots of threads and then you can post questions. All your questions will be answered by parents and coaches that know what they’re talking about. There is a poster, TRHit, that has a travel team, knows every thing about college baseball in that area and is always willing to help. If your son will be a rising senior this summer it’s the most important time for being recruited. Get on it immediately and figure out which events to attend this summer.

Good luck!

I agree with Stemit and Sammy the Dog, to go to HSB website. Beyond the first two threads there is an adbundance of information including camps, pre-high school, post high schools, going pro, colleges, state and regional information. It is somewhat organized, but kind of like an attic of information that can sometimes be scattered. There is a search tool that you can use.

IMO the CC site is more geared to the academic/athlete where HSB is more geared toward the baseball athlete. There are some old timers on HSB that can be very direct, and not give two hoots about the academic side of college athletics. If you keep the focus on baseball (first) and anything else, you’ll be okay.
