Based on my Core Stats (EC excluded), What Colleges Should Be on my Range?

Hey everyone,

I know it takes more than GPA and SAT scores for a college app, but what colleges do I have a chance with these stats. I am a junior becoming a senior now.

SAT 1: 2200

GPA: 3.86 UW, 4.58 Weighted – I know my GPA is my weak point.

SAT II: 720 Math II, 690 World Hist, 740 US Hist

Rank: My HS is really competitive and I am not in the top 10%. I am under 15% of my class out of 543.

AP: 6 Tests - 5’s / 1 Test- 4

Along with a solid and varied list of ECs… By the way I live in Texas but I am not a US citizen, I have a legal visa. I am still considered as an international student.

How will I do for schools such as USC, UCLA, UC Berkeley, NYU, Carnegie Mellon. Are there any other colleges that are a fit for me?

Thanks,

BUMP – Please help!

What state are you from?

Texas

What are your financial constraints and what major are you interested in? You are certainly competitive for the schools you mention but most of them will not offer much merit aid.

Didn’t see TX. All of the colleges you put are very competitive, but due to your high stats you definitely have a shot. NYU is most likely the easiest for you on your list. UCLA and Berk I would consider high matches, but you definitely have a chance there too. I don’t know enough about USC and CM to chance you for those. If you like the UCs, UCSD & UCSB are also very good universities that are a little less selective. Colleges should be able to see past your “low” GPA, due to your other stats. Vanderbilt, Emory, UMich, & UVA are also good colleges for your stats. Check out my recent thread and help me out

xraymancs, I don’t really need financial aid. However it would be great if I were to get any sort of merit scholarship.

Is my GPA (unweighted and weighted) really ‘that’ low?

If you are interested in a STEM major, you can look at the AITU member schools. The ones which are not the very most selective ones offer good merit aid. Your statistics are quite good, I would not worry too much about that.

I actually am interested in FAME majors. (finance, accounting, management, econ).

I would add Boston College, Wake Forest, Richmond, Emory, Lehigh, Bucknell plus Cornell, Michigan and Notre Dame as well even though they are very, very hard.

For the OOS cost of the UC’s, I don’t see much value.

For purposes of tuition, are you a Texas resident?

@BatesParent2019 he stated that he is a texas resident, but not a citizen of the US (legal visa).
@BockyRalboa123 Your GPA is not terrible. Look through it with your own eyes, not through CC eyes. Your SAT score is considered competitive enough for the UCs (however, we still need to know your UC GPA). If you are looking for financial aid, I would suggest not looking towards the UCs. They don’t offer much financial aid (I actually think they don’t even offer any to OOS kids, but correct me if I’m wrong) for OOS students. Your stats seem good enough for NYU, but maybe try to retake your math subject test if you want to apply to CMU.

Aren’t visas considered internationals unless they have a greencard?

@AnnieBot yes, he even states that in his post.

Are my stats good enough for USC?

@BockyRalboa123 Your stats are in the range for USC (your UW GPA is even slightly above range, so don’t even worry about that any more). I can’t tell you your exact chances for USC since you are considered international, but at the moment, you seem to have a solid enough chance, even better than some others. Good luck.
