i feel dumb asking most of these, but i guess i'm just nervous about college...

why is having a laptop a good idea?

what is the difference between a counselor and a department/student adviser (who does what?)

is it better to go to tutoring or a professor with homework questions (or is it just a "use your best judgement" scenario?)

how does one find out about library orientations, workshops, lectures, first club meetings, etc?

are print or nonprint (online, etc) references better for research papers? aka which is more trusted and up to date, I would assume online resources but do some professors prefer / demand nonprint references?

what questions don't you ask in class

any info would be great!

i’m adding…

what / where do you put your bike in the winter / at night? do you leave it outside? pull it into the dorm?

There is wireless internet in every building on campus, making it great to have during class or between classes to take care of homework or keep up to date with other things online.

Adviser helps you choose your classes, decide on majors, etc. Counselor…well I don’t quite know what that it is haha. At the U I believe it is someone who is there if you need life advice, someone to talk to sort of thing.

Normally I will go to a tutor first if I feel it is something quick and easy. Otherwise I utilize the professor’s office hours.

During the first few weeks of school you will see flyers everywhere. Plus one cool thing at the U is the Washington Ave. Pedestrian Bridge over the Mississippi has “billboards” painted
for info. on getting involved on tons of clubs on campus!

Normally print. However, the professor will let you know what they prefer.

If it is a large lecture, personally I wait till after class to as the professor. Otherwise feel free to ask as long as it’s class appropriate.

If it’s not snowing why not lock it outside. Otherwise you can bring it into your dorm.

Hope this helps!

yes it does!!! thanks a lot!

I’m only a senior in high school, so I’m only going to answer the 1st one. Laptops are great because they are small and light. They take up less room on your desk, you can bring them to the libraries, dorm lounges, etc. Many classes you take, it will be fine to bring your laptop to class. This is very convenient, and most buildings have wireless internet.
