I've read all about early decision, and I know what it is and everything, but I can't figure out exactly how do apply early or regular decision. Is applying early decision actually applying earlier, like "All early decision applicants apply in September" or is it just a box you check on the application that says "early decision?"

You must have all your application materials (including recs and test scores) sent in early, usually Nov. 1st. The colleges then notify the ED students on or around December 15 with the acceptances, denials, or deferrals to the RD pool.

^That, and there is a box you will check on the app so the college knows you want to do ED and aren’t just sending stuff in earlier than normal.

Additionally, if you apply Early Decision, you agree that if accepted you WILL attend that school (assuming sufficient financial aid), and you will withdraw all other applications. You can only apply to one ED school. If you are deferred or rejected, you can apply to another school as EDII under the same conditions.

Do all ED schools have EDII?

I don’t think so.

Okay, so there IS a box that you check? So if I want to apply now and not do early decision, I can?

^Correct. You will just check a box for “Regular Decision” on your app
