Basic Grammar Question

I am writing an essay and want to know if this sentence uses proper grammar:

Being educated in the typical public school system, I went through the usual course rationing system, taking the usual four credits of math courses, four credits of science courses, four credits of English courses, and four credits of social studies courses.

The very first part, "Being educated," is where I think there may be a mistake.

Should it be "Having been educated" ?

Thank you!

No it’s fine as it is. And don’t use usual twice (thesaurus).

I think you should add a colon after system and remove the “, taking”. However that’s just a stylistic thing that I would do.

Presidont: You are sure about that, right? As in, is it grammatically correct?

blob793: I agree with what you think and have made that change.

It should be “Having been educated” to keep the past tense of the sentence.
