BASIC QUESTION

I don't get how the classes part of this whole college thing works. Are there general classes we need to take before working on our major? I plan on double majoring in psychology and political science and I don't really see a reason to take math or English classes.

Please please tell me I don't have to go through more torturous years of math.

Yes there are general classes you must take but you also begin to work on your major. The “general” courses are to ensure that you have a well rounded education. If you find math torturous you can take a natural science class instead and there are many classes to choose from that satisfy the requirement so non science math people are not in a class they do not like or can do well in. Most of the top colleges now have these same type requirements. In the end you will appreciate having learned so of the things you will choose to learn. You will be a more interesting person :).

Thank you @Mamalumper
