Basic to Academic Year Squadron Conversions

I'll be in 19 too. See you there.

Potterfan going to 40....

Son is going to 38.

What happened to Eagle 8?

Good question, ds52262. He isn't sure why, but he thinks it had to do with keeping the demographics of the squadrons equal. I told him not to worry, it wouldn't be the last time the Air Force sends him somewhere other than where he was expecting.

Was he trying to legacy into 8? Because I'm pretty sure they can't deny you a legitimate legacy request.

No, several people were denied it this year. It might screw up the demographics, but I think they should give the legacy guys and gals the squads they requested.

what's a legacy person?

It means they have had a relative like a sibling or parent who graduated from a particular squadron. So, they try to move to that squadron as an upperclassman.

I'm going into 13... That's where I lived in basic! haha just my luck. ;)

haha, you get one of the frat girls from 10. Have fun.

I'll be in 15 next year!!! I hear eagle is going to be in 14!...second semester for sure

I'm in 13...got any questions?

yeah, i'll be in 14 2nd semester, but still waiting to find out my company for next semester...

I'm gonna laugh when you wind up in 14th Company. :)

I know Duckphreak hasn't posted in a while. She was very busy last year with a Group job first semester, and as Training Supt second. Just wanted to congradulate her on being first semester Sq Commander. If any of the 2012's end up in 4 they will be well taken care of.

A friend from my squad is going into 4. It seems like it's going to be a pretty good squadron.

So... What's 13 like? Isn't there going to be a new AOC this upcoming year?

so which squadron is the most stract? and what are the advantages and disadvantages? is there a different culture altogether in squadrons like these?

1, 21, 24 (and a few others, i'm sure) have reputations as "stract" squads. Different squadrons DEFINITELY have different cultures, every squad is different.

13 is a good squad. New AOC and one new AMT coming in.

It also changes from year to year, depending on new AOC, AMT, squadron commander etc.

Example: my squadron this year was ranked 40th in the wing (out of 40) first semester, and 39th this semester. AKA "dirtbag" squadron. Drove me up the wall. But the problem lies mainly with the 2008 folks, who are all leaving. The new squadron commander for next semester wants to put the squadron in the top three in the wing, and the AOC/AMT are on page, and picked him for that reason. Unlike the past, he's taking the squadron position assignments very seriously, and it'll be a big change from this year. I'm frankly relieved we'll finally be taking things seriously.

All that to say, you can expect a "stract" or "chill" squadron, but it just might change drastically. Anyone expecting to screw around and slack off in 35 next year (like the past) will probably be dissappointed.
