Basics Online?

Does anyone know if it is possible to take your basic courses online, then transfer those credits to your choice university to complete your undergraduate studies? If so, is it advisable, or would it be cheaper and faster to just do them at the same time?

The risk of taking your basics online (or at any college other than one that is the uni you want or has a specific transfer compact with that uni) is that you can lose credits in the transfer process. It’s not necessarily the case that all of the classes you take will transfer.

If you do choose to do this, then make sure that any school you look at is reputable and regionally accredited. You also want to avoid the for-profit unis, as many students find that they face difficulty transferring those classes.

It’s also highly variable school to school what transfer credits they will accept so make sure you look at the specifics for every school that you are targeting.

Community college online classes may be the best bet for you if you intend to transfer. They should be able to give you a good idea, too, of your options regarding 4-yr schools, degrees, and transfer opportunities.
