@SCdreamin
What part of the country are you in? We are in New England. How is your daughter going about picking schools at which to attend camps? What was her experience at the D1 camp?
Does your team record games? I feel like an idiot trying to do it but think I’m going to have to step up and look silly. I know the professional services do it at tourneys but omg they cost so much and the clips are so bad! They sent me a clip from dc over the summer (fishing for me to buy the film package) and they missed half the play.
Glad to know I’m not the only one fumbling through this!
My kid is the shortest on her team at 5’7", so I get where your kidding comes from. We were hoping the same, but her mother is 4’11", so we cannot complain.
@hoopsorsoccer Yes, my D loves playing D3. I agree that some of the games look like very good HS AAU teams. But, the school is an incredible fit academically. Plus, my D does not have height and is not a star player. A good player, but not a star.
We recorded every AAU game my D played in soph and jr year. I always saw parent recording games. We did not record her HS games, because the team was terrible, but other parents did. We also keep a book with all the stats. While we had plenty of our own film, we did buy the professional film at Nationals in DC. I thought the quality was good. It helps if your D wears colorful socks, headband, underarmour, etc so the college coach can easily pick her out. Good luck.
My daughter is a freshman basketball player. She is not going to be a D1 talent nor would I want her to play D1, but D3 is a possibility if she works hard and grows another inch or two. She has great grades, but she is just beginning high school so she has a long way to go there.
She was on a showcase tournament AAU team (playing tournaments throughout the northeast) through 8th grade but she wasn’t good enough to start and she got cut. That team also played a heavy dribble penetration style that was just not a fit for my D. She has some good friends on the team, which is why she stayed on it as long as she did, but I think getting cut was the right decision all the way around. The team was a bad fit for her and she needed a wake up call. She will play for a pretty good high school team and she should get playing time as a frosh, and she found a new AAU team that she should probably start for and will play a style that should showcase her skills.
So my question is: When does D3 recruiting typically start? Do we contact the schools? I couldn’t find a thread for D3 women’s basketball recruiting.
D3 recruiting is definitely the last to get going. I am no expert but I’ll start you off.
Get game film from any game you can. Make highlights for each season - freshman HS season, spring AAU season, etc.
Spring of sophomore year and heading into national summer tournaments start emailing coaches. D3 coaches are at the national tournaments - send highlights with the intro email and send your daughter’s game schedule for each tournament the week before the tournament. Make sure you are telling your AAU coach which college coach you have emailed and who has emailed you back. D3 coaches can and will email you back your sophomore spring (or before if your kid is having a great season).
Look for any camps the summer after sophomore year. If your daughter has some favorites that she’s leaning to make sure that she goes to that college’s 1/2 day recruiting camp. There are also showcases if you are in the right area, ask your AAU coach about them. Ask for a list of college coaches before you register and pay money for any showcases.
