basketball problem

Hi, Ive played basketball from 9th-11th grade but dont really want to play in 12th grade. My ecs are as follows
Habitat 9-12 project coordiantor
soccer 9-12 four letters
basketball 9-11
food club 10-12
speech 10 nfl member and letter
Boys state 11 Community service coordinator

Would it look bad on my application if I decided not to play basketball my senior year?

Also, off the topic, on the common application for the writing score on the act do they want the combined 1-36 english and writing score or just the 1-12 writing score?

It sort of depends on where you are targeting. If you are talking Top 50, I would say yes, only because there doesn't appear to be a lot else, and it may look bad for senior year. Outside of the top 50, it really won't matter, since they tend to focus on numbers than ECs.

what if i decided to play tennis instead

Most colleges don't consider ECs when it comes to admission. They may consider ECs for merit aid or (obviously) for athletic scholarships.

Public universities in particular rely mainly on one's stats and state of residence for admissions decisions.

Whether or not you continue with basketball, your ECs are not remarkable for places like top 20 colleges, which do consider ECs in admission because they have an overabundance of high stat applicants. I don't think that your ECs will make or break you even with other top 50 colleges, so the bottom line is to do whatever you want to when it comes to ECs.

I agree with NSM, unless you are being recruited for basketball or soccer (and then you are giving up basketball to focus more on soccer), it really won't matter if you give up basketball

All right cool thanks
