Bates #1 for Fulbright students!

Bates is #1 in the nation among LACs for the number of Fulbright grants awarded. I am so impressed with what is happening at the college right now. No one should doubt the excellence of a Bates education.

Even more impressive to me is that Bates had the highest number of applicants among LACs. Shows that Bates really believes in their students.

I’m not aware of an LAC that was awarded 23 Fulbrights. Certainly not in the last 9 years. Adjusted for size, the achievement is all the more impressive. Well Done!

More than Penn, UC Berkeley, Cornell, Columbia, and Stanford! And tied with U Chicago. Love it!

Only schools with more (Brown, Notre Dame, Northwestern, Princeton, Michigan & Harvard) have substantially higher enrollments than Bates College.

As a former Fulbright Scholar to the UK, it is important to note that there are now many different types of “Fulbright” scholar. There are now Fulbright teaching awards too. It’s not clear what category of Fulbright this is referring to.

The link I provided states that the list includes scholars and students. The top list is for scholars, including teachers and PhD candidates. The second list is for students. At the end of the students’ list, it indicates that a Fulbright grant is given to students or teaching assistants for independent research.

Yes, I’m trying to see if I can get information as to how many in each category were earned at those schools.

@Lindagaf, the students can get an award to teach or to conduct research.

Yes, I know. Not sure what the confusion is stemming from. It’s a good achievement regardless. The same can be true of any college on the list.

Nice article @Lindagaf
