Bates AND INTERVIEWING

my basic stats are 95/100 GPA (9 APs , 5 honors)
no rank (if we had one, ~10%)

sat: 1350 (740 math, 610 verbal)
SAT II: 690, 670, 670 (math 2, 1, chem)

im asian and although at typical elite institutions that is seen as a disadvantage, i know at Bates Asians are truly a URM… i was reading in a guide book its like 3 % of Bates are asians, so they obviosuly get favorable consideration since their underrepresented

do you know that not interviewing is going to hinder my whole process and get me rejected… did anyone get in to bates w/o interview?

only like 10 percent of kids get into bates without an interview, and those people are usually internationals and those who come off the waitlist. There are few but its pretty rare. Unless you are exceptional in some way, I would guess that you might be waitlisted.

Bates is one of only a handful of schools that places as much emphasis on the interview as on any other non GPA/SAT factor. I would strongly advise you to get up to Maine for an interview. It's also important to see if a school in a small Maine city is going to be a good match for you. If you really can't get there, Bates will provide you with an alumni interviewer in your area. So, have an interview! My daughter is Asian, but I have no idea if it helped with her admission (She's a junior). I do believe Bates considers minority status, but not heavily.

is it too late to interview? i thought the deadline for requesting one passed... how do i get an interview, someone take me through the process

come on playas, i need a fast answeeeer

yooooooooooo

times passed to request one according to the website, so basically am i screwed?

Yes, I believe the deadline for requesting an alumni interview had already passed.

You should still definitely call and check it out... I requested my interview a few days before Christmas, and just had the actual interview a week ago (it was with an alumni). I don't see how you would not want to interview -- the woman I met with talked about a lot of things at Bates you don't read from a guidebook. She asked a lot of things like "Why do you want to go here," and with my answers she got to elaborate. I know Maine really well, as did she, so there was a lot to talk about there, too, especially about Bates vs. Colby vs. Bowdoin type of thing. It was 1.5 hours, same length as all my other interviews have been, and I can only see it helping in the process as you get to talk about personal things not reflected in their app.

Beg the admissions office and I'm sure they would help you out. Application's not due yet.

are there alumni local interviews, or phone interviews... getting up to maine would be a large problem.... im going to e-mail them what should i say in the email for reasons why I did not notice the interview deadline

Just say you became very interested in bates later on, or something
