Yeah I’m not worried about it or going to complain or anything. It was just very weird when it didn’t have to be. The people at Bates are very good at interviewing and this was an anomaly.
When is Bates releasing decisions?
From what I’ve seen from last year, decisions came out around the 24. Their website only says by April 1st though. @marnina
Thank you! I am very nervous!
Relax! There’s nothing we can do no anyway. We’ll all know in a couple of weeks!
@realperson2990 keepin it real
The interview shouldn’t really affect her chances. They’ll see if she is a good fit or not, and give her a decision Good luck!
Decisions at the end of this month. Nervous…
Does anyone know if we will get an email a couple days before decisions come out or will Bates just randomly update our portal with no warning?
Well, last year the portal was updated on noon of the 26th, with admissions letters getting to people over the next few days. I’m assuming we’ll see something similar this year. @erk138
On the subject of interviews, I had an on-campus interview with a senior, and I think it went well. If they have students do interviews, the interviews hold that much weight. I wouldn’t worry.
Hey @bluenette23. Did I see you in the Bucknell thread too? And regarding interviews, from what I hear for Bates in particular, they do carry some weight in the admissions decision.
@realperson2990 ya i’ve left a comment there too… no i totally don’t use college confidential too much… lol
Applied RD,
Gender: Female
ACT: 30
SAT: 1270 *please don’t judge me, I am terrible at taking tests. I work better on projects and real world application which imo is way better for the market. I also didn’t send my scores because they were optional and I didn’t think reflected on me as a person.
Essay: According to my teacher and my counselors, thought provoking and great.
Supplement: Clearly indicated my interest and what I would “give back” to the school
GPA: 3.882 last I checked but probably 3.9ish unweighted out of 4.0. Probably 4.0 weighted.
Highschool Progression: Had a couple of B’s in the beginning but worked my way up to all/mostly A’s in junior and senior year.
Did Junior project on fluoride, Senior project is on Opioids.
ECs: Editor in Chief of the Yearbook, Faithful member of Chorus for 3-4 years, Drama club member 5 years
Volunteered: 110ish hours at school and for admissions, 40ish hours ED ambassador at hospital
Hooks: Unfortunately none. In fact I’m South Asian so that hurts me and I didn’t realize this before (I thought it was a plus! Idiotic I know!) I also am middle class, and it looks like my parents are doing well based on their 2015 tax returns, but my dad lost his job in the past year and is taking a significant pay cut, and my mom is no longer working.
Nephew applied RD, didn’t submit test scores.
4.24 w GPA/3.89 UW
4 years of wrestling, 3 years of marching band, 2 years soccer, works 19 hours per week, 50 hours community service (tutoring), mathlete,
Good essay on how he has grown due to his family situation (incarcerated dad, autistic brother)
Did interview with admissions counselor over the phone bc they didn’t have anyone in his state to interview him (he’s from a rural area-maybe this helps with geographic diversity??). He says it went well, but he’s a teenage boy so who knows
I wanted an interview. I requested one twice. They didn’t even give me the option to interview over the phone :(.
Applied RD, didnt get into my 1st choice but hoping for good news from Bates.
Gender: Female
ACT: didnt take
SAT: 1330 *Could be better but English isn’t my first language ( Ive known it for 8 years because I’m moved to the USA 8 years ago ). Also, I didn’t submit my scores even though they can see it on the mid year report. I took it twice I got a 1230 or something the first time. I have test anxiety and I just don’t perform at my optimal on tests.
Essay: Decent, I wrote about how I struggled to learned English( my experiences of embarrassment with my accent). I wrote it in a metaphorical so I hope they like it :/.
Supplement: Addressing the statement posted by Bates, I wrote about how I’ve had an interest for political science but my family wants me to be a doctor and relieve them from poverty. Basically how bates is my haven and how I would take my skills and apply it to the global world .
GPA: 3.6/4.0 UW, 5.3W (ehhh I’m in IB)
Highschool Progression: Straight As in Freshman year. 2 Bs in sophomore year ( I decided to take 7 AP classes. Ik crazy ). Let’s not talk about Junior year (no grades below Bs tho). Senior year 4As, 3Bs. Ive had deaths in the family that’s affected by junior year plus a depression problem. I took 13 AP classes. Passed 9 of them. (No 1s just 2s in physics …) plus IB classes. (4HLs; Math,English,Physics,Bio. 2SL; French and Psychology)
ECs: MAØ: historian. NHS, FNHS. Secme
1st counselor of young women’s club. Dance choreographer (4years) . Drama club. Some other clubs etc .
Volunteered: I wasn’t counting but I’ll like to say about 200+ (From all 4 years )
Hooks: Black-Carribean, First Generation, Low- income. Some other stuff
Bates is at the top of my list now ( I’m crossing fingers
@Silverempress
That’s bizarre… I have almost the same exact stats. 30 ACT, similar ECs, almost the same GPA, same exact financial situation with the 2015 FAFSA data. How weird.
@realperson2990 @CodyE27
They did say people often meet soulmates at Bates.
