Hey everyone! I didn’t see a thread yet for this. Who’s thinking about applying to Bates this fall/winter? If so please state if you will apply ED 1, ED 2, or RD. I am currently unsure. Good luck to all of you!
The college officially annouced stats for the class of 2023. Impressive.

2023 Class Stats*
Class size 501
Admission rate 12.1%
Yield rate 47.4%
My son will be applying. He wants to revisit to make sure ED is the right choice.
I am! (ED 1)
@awf201 That’s great!! I wish you good luck and hope that you get in!!
I will apply ED 1
If i don’t submit my ACT score will this lessen my chances to get into Bates ?
@Entropy26 , it’s hard to say. Bates is known for being test-optional, so they care much more about grades than test scores. However, if you are part of a very competitive demographic, test scores might matter more. I’m not an AO though, so I can’t say with any certainty. If you don’t have a high ACT score, there is no point in submitting it, that’s for sure.
@Entropy26 if you look at the college website, you can see that Bates cares a lot about you as a person. I do not think that not sending a ACT score will lessen your chances at all.
Make sure you do the interview…especially if you are not sending test scores
D20 is applying RD to Bates. She really liked it when she visited it this fall. Good luck to everyone!
Applying ED1 as a “recruited” athlete. Best of luck!
@trackathlete1 why is “recruited” in quotes?
@homerdog “recruited” because admission may be more likely but is still not guaranteed like at a d1 school. However, I suppose if we are referring to d3 recruiting only, no quotes are needed.
@trackathlete1 What was scope of “recruited” . Anyone know how much recruited helps your chances? One coach told my D20 she would be on the list- wonder how much of a hook that really is.
@cllgbound I suggest you post over in the Athletic Recruits forum. There’s a lot of good advice over there. This thread is about Bates 2024.
Does anyone know when the ED1 decisions will be released?
@Olaf2020 Looking back at the previous years it seems to have been around the days that finals end. Even though they say by December 20th, I would suspect somewhere around December 14th or 15th.
Thanks
Best guess is Dec 14 at 8am. That would fit the pattern of the last 2 years.Watch the school admissions twitter feed for info.
