Rejected. Expected at least getting waitlisted. Disappointed!
waitlisted
Hey I was just wondering if you’d feel comfortable posting your stats. I personally got waitlisted but figured I had a shot at getting in and am just wondering what it takes. Thanks and congrats on getting in!
Awesome, @nickgaj ! Congratulations!
@Lindagaf Thank you!

Accepted!! Yay Bobcats!
Was scared after I didn’t do an interview but I visited so I guess it pulled through!!
Waitlisted. Kinda fell out of love with Bates after visiting my top choice though so not. a huge bummer.
SAT 1470 GPA 98 uw
D20 accepted! She applied test-optional and visited them during Prologue. Very excited as I know this is one of her top 3 choices.
My so is waitlisted, but totally okay since he got acceptances yesterday ?
Waitlisted, Bates seems to be very competitive this year.

@katie6745 Possible you were waitlisted for yield protection. All your stats seems very high and ECs very strong. Unless you are New England, white, from a suburb with extremely high need and showed absolutely no interest I can’t see this being anything but that.
@Charlie2772 white and from an nj suburb !
Hi everyone, I thought I’d share my stats for future students:
Accepted
SAT: 1220 (did not send)
GPA: 3.8 (W)
no class rank
Honors Classes: Geometry, World History, Biology, Algebra 2, Chemistry, Pre-calculus
AP Classes: U.S. History, Biology, Literature, German, Seminar, Psychology
Extracurriculars: Figure Skater (competed in Solo Dance nationals), Violinist (1st stand in my school orchestra and got into a regional orchestra twice), Summer Internship at Boston Children’s Hospital, Domestic/International Volunteer (Chicago, Peru, Washington DC), Often volunteer at my churches food pantry, on the board of a GSA club in my school, created a club to help minorities feel more included in school (I go to a very white school)
Common App Essay: I talked about my journey through life on swing at our family house in the Adirondacks (a very special place to me). I thought it was pretty good
Interest: Interview (didn’t think it was the best but it wasn’t bad. It was my first interview at a college so I was pretty nervous) and Campus tour
Overall: What I gathered from Bates was that they really care about what you can bring to their community. You have to make yourself stand out in a unique way. I think there are not many gay, asian, male figure skating, violinist who applied to Bates, which probably helped me out. Yes GPA is important, but I think that if you really show the admissions team who you are as a person, and what you can bring to their community (common app essay!!) then you have a pretty good chance.
Linked below is an article by Bates that I found useful. You can tell that Bates really cares about the individual as a whole. Bates seems to admit people and not just numbers (if that makes sense)

@katie6745 , I agree that you may have been waitlisted for yield protection. Is Bates your top choice? If so, email them a LOCI. Let them know that it’s your top choice and that if you are accepted, you will attend. Then email them in a few weeks (maybe around April 10-15) to reaffirm that. Add any additional info, such as prizes or achievements, etc… but keep the email short and sweet.
If May 1 comes with no word, email or call and state the same. You sound like a strong applicant. Bates has a fantastic debate team. A couple of years ago, they came in second in the World Championship in Oxford, England. You can let them know you want to be part of that, etc…
That is how my daughter got off waitlist at Bates, and it’s been an amazing experience for her. They knew she wanted to be there. Since then, she’s won awards, a prestigious scholarship, a summer research grant, is a TA, and has had all kinds of great opportunities. She most values the excellent relationships she has with professors, who have given her good letters of rec that have helped her achieve these things. Good luck!
I suppose I’ll post my stats for future applicants, but keep in mind they are super holistic so fit matters a ton!!!

White upper-middle class from southern NJ, no hooks. I think I was just a really good fit for the outdoorsy and hippie vibe at the northeast LACs. I also visited, so I’m sure the demonstrated interest helped a bunch. They definitely practice what they preach about admitting the people, not the numbers, so I encourage everyone to apply no matter what even if they don’t think they have a shot!
