I am completely in love with this school and I would really appreciate if someone could tell me what they think of my chances. Thank you so much!

I would give you about a 99% chance of getting into Bates.

You left out some very important information. Do you need financial aid? I found AdverturesAbroad 99% chances on of the most optimistic responses I have ever read on this site. Iā€™ve heard of high schools valedictorian with a similar transcripts get deferred and then denied. Although they are test optional, a majority of students who do get into test optional schools do provide test scores. The cynical part of me having been through the process thinks the kids who get in without providing test scores are either Athletes, Legacy, URM of Full pay.

My brother was deferred last year from ED2 and then accepted RD. He did not submit test scores. They gave him a $50k grant. He is not an athlete or legacy. Your cynicism for Bates is unwarranted.

@hope1233 So, what was the outcome? We all ā€˜hopeā€™ you were admitted.

Unfortunately, Akqj10 was correct; I was deferred. Although I do have hope to get into Bates RD, I understand that my chances of being admitted are very slim and I will therefore be applying somewhere else for ED2.

Donā€™t give up @hope1233 !
Like body surfer, I know someone who was deferred and then accepted RD to Bates. For whatever reason, it seems to happen a lot. Your stats are impressive, and Iā€™m sure your interest shines through. Iā€™m surprised you werenā€™t admitted with your ED application, but Iā€™d be even more surprised if you werenā€™t admitted RD!

Error I kind of want to reply to some of the things akqj mentioned:

While bates is not need blind, financial aid has very little impact on admissions. Bates has a budget, but I would hazard to say that need may only really hurt your chances if youā€™re a waitlist candidate and theyā€™ve already given out most of the financial aid. In the ED rounds, it isnā€™t considered much at all. Itā€™s a fifty fifty split here with financial aid.

Regarding test optional: Bates has published statistics that roughly half of those who get into bates never submitted test scores. I think the exact number is in the forties. They really donā€™t place a lot of value in SAT scores in comparison with extracurricular and grades.

To hope: You have all the right stats and background. I am extremely surprised that you didnā€™t get in ED1, but would be even more surprised if you didnā€™t get in during regular. Since you are a deferred candidate, youā€™ll have a small ā€œconsideration advantageā€ because you are more likely to commit than someone who didnā€™t apply ed. If Bates is really your first choice, donā€™t give up on it. Donā€™t be afraid to send admissions an update along with your midterm grades. I find it hard to imagine that a letter expressing continued interest and information regarding any new achievements or awards would do anything but help you. I absolutely love it here and would love it if you found your way here next year!
