I got waitlisted!
Another waitlist. Seems like there are a lot of us!
accepted!
Congratulations!
Congratulations
waitlisted, oh well. there’s an oddly large amount of us for some reason
Waitlisted as well. Expected though
Hi,
I was admitted to NYU under ED2, however the financial aid offer prevented me from attending NYU so I declined my spot there in the goal of finding a better financial offer.
Congratulations! I hope Bates is affordable.
I got in!
I’m shocked cause I expected to be yield protected.
International Student from India
33 on ACT
Emailed my regional officer twice- once with some questions in Jan and once in Feb with an admissions update
Happy for you
Waitlisted!
Accepted! Maryland public school. Very excited. Good luck to all.
Son Waitlisted from CA. Not sure what the stats are on getting off waitlist?
@Suryavir , wait what?
4 accepted out of 700
This is the data from the most recent Common Data Set. 2 students were accepted from the waitlist last year, '21-22. The year before, 4 were accepted in '20-'21. In the '18-'19 cycle, 0 were accepted. 42 were taken off the waitlist in '19-'20, not too surprising given the pandemic.
Waitlist acceptances can vary wildly from one year to the next at many colleges. Don’t give up hope because you never know how a waitlist will play out. My daughter got in from the waitlist back in 2016 (a large number got off waitlist that year) and had a fantastic experience at Bates.
For anyone who wants to get off waitlist, email your regional admissions officer:
-State that Bates is your first choice and you will attend if accepted.
-Update with most recent grades and achievements, awards, or whatever is notable.
-Keep it short.
Towards the end of April, you can consider sending another note to the regional admissions officer reaffirming that Bates is your top choice, along with anything else of note. This worked for my daughter.
Congratulations to all who have been accepted. I hope you all end up at the best college for you!
I got in!
I would echo/bump this post. My older child (high school class of 2020) was waitlisted at Bates and Bowdoin. She was one of the 4 that got off the waitlist and also got off the waitlist at Bowdoin. She also was accepted RD at Colby.
She ultimately decided to skip the Maine schools and attend another NESCAC. If Bates is your top choice, definitely express interest. If you have any other noteworthy item like research, athletics, volunteer, even a job, I would share how you are spending your time productively. Many students take the passive route. That does not work.
My daughter was accepted. Rejected ED1 at Midd, waitlisted ED2 at Hamilton. She’s pretty excited.
