Bates College RD 2023

Accepted!!! 32 ACT and W GPA 3.91
4APs, no visit or interview

D accepted. 1520 SAT. 5.0 W GPA. All state music. NHD national finalist. Girl Scout highest rank. Other varsity EC.

Congrats to all accepted and don’t despair if you didn’t get in. things do workout for others. I applied to 24 schools and my lowest rank one was the only one that gave me enough aid to make it affordable. 30 years later, it all worked out.

I got waitlisted… Oh well. I think I got waitlisted because I applied for aid but did not submit any of the requirements. Congrats to everyone who got accepted!

S accepted!! So happy! 34 ACT, GPA 3.85, 5 AP’s and legacy.

Accepted!

Interviewed with an admissions officer who was visiting my area.
1560 SAT
35 ACT
4.0 UW GPA, 4.63 W
Class Rank: 2/367

Also accepted by UNC (in-state), NC State, and a local school, waitlisted by Bowdoin and Colby, deferred ED by Brown.

@TheJoon: Weren’t you accepted ED II at the University of Richmond in February? If so, you were required to withdraw your remaining applications at that time.

already withdrew:)

@TheJoon if you withdrew you would have never gotten an admissions decision (waitlist)

@TheJoon , please do the right thing and withdraw your app from Bates. They might use the waitlist this year and you don’t want to waste their time or possibly deprive someone a potential opening. In addition, as the above post states, you wouldn’t have received any kind of decision if you had withdrawn. You risk having your acceptance at UR rescinded if they become aware that you didn’t withdraw your app. Your guidance counselor should know this too. He/she risks getting the school blacklisted.

@TheJoon, it looks like you have been active on the Amherst board, awaiting a decision there too. Please withdraw all your other apps as well as Bates’.

Son Accepted RD after being Deferred ED1
ACT 32 Superscore; WGPA 3.66; Many AP/Honors classes
Excellent community involvement
No Alumni interview - Requested one, but never heard back from admissions to schedule
Extremely Competitive HS; 9 of 108 Seniors accepted to Ivy’s
Athlete - Will play Varsity sport, but no coaches support with admissions. Complete opposite of college admission scandal currently in the news.

Our S was accepted and he’s thrilled! We’re planning to attend admitted student’s day on April 5th, and we’re wondering if anyone might have recommendations regarding activities, based on their own experiences. The 2019 ASD schedule isn’t available yet, but some of the 2019 events might be similar to those of last year (and previous years).

Thanks for any tips, and congratulations to all who were accepted!

Forgot to put this one here. I think this was waitlist #1 or 2 last Saturday (five this week)

For my daughter Decision: waitlisted
SAT: 1430
GPA: 3.99 UW; 4.7W
Applied for FA: yes
Home State: KY
Major: Political Science 10 APs; KY Governor Scholar; NHS; lots of ECs and good essays. Was not able to visit.

Congrats to those accepted. Cannot wait for the waiting to be over. Guess that is not true though since so many waitlists. In the end I think she will accept Villanova and stay on waitlist for three schools tops.

Any suggestions you guys have to get off from the waitlist?

I don’t know of specific steps that students on the Bates waitlist can take, but general advice always seems sound. You might contact the admissions office to see whether they have a ranked list, and find out where on the list you are. Most importantly, you’ll want to continue to show keen interest in the school. (Could write a letter to the admissions office, stating your enthusiastic interest.) If any new honors come your way during the spring, be sure and let them know. I imagine that there are other CC readers who’ve had more personal experience with the Bates waitlist, and can weigh in with more specific suggestions.

Most of all, wishing you the best of luck!

@Dhk138 , my D is a current Bates student who got in from the waitlist. She let them know a few days after decisions were released that she wanted to stay on the list. In her short email, she said she would definitely attend if accepted. She waited until mid-April, or maybe a little later, to reaffirm that Bates was her top choice. Her email was still pretty short, but she elaborated a little on how she would be involved at Bates, what she intended to study and why Bates was the best place for her to study. She had interviewed in the summer and knew it was a good interview, so she mentioned her interviewer too. She had her counselor send updated grades. In short, she made it very clear that she was a good fit for the school, but she was concise about it. Then she just waited.

My D had no real achievements to update, so she didn’t make up stuff. I guess she was just pretty honest about her desire to go to Bates. Hope that helps.

Forgot to mention that the above post (frezia1873, posted today at 12:55 pm) was addressed to @Dhk138.

Hey guys! Anybody receive any mail from them yet? Also is anyone going to admitted students day/bates beginnings?

Hello teddy10143, while I am not going to Bates Beginnings, my entourage and I will be happily attending admitted students day on the 5th.

Ds accepted from Bates WL same year as @Lindagaf 's DD. Different approach…

Requested WL spot on April 28. Updated with some new awards and most recent grades.

Remember, though, that WL is all about filling spots, so it differs from year to year. It could be that almost all WL activity in one year is one gender, or kids with interest in physics, etc. It’s really impossible to know how it will go in any one cycle.
