Bates, Hamilton and Wesleyan

My son is considering LACs and has narrowed it down to Bates, Hamilton and Wesleyan. Now he needs to decide which to apply ED. They all sound great but after researching them from a distance (as well as brief visits) the factors become overwhelming and it’s hard for him to compare. Is there anyone who is familiar with all three schools and who could provide some unique delineating characteristics of the schools? While you would probably want to know what he is looking for, I don’t want to lead the discussion. I am seeking top-of-mind thoughts about how the schools compare.

This is satire of course.

Wesleyan is the best school, IMHO. I would apply there ED. I think you will find all 3 are very comparable. Between Bates and Hamilton, try to make distinctions based on non-academic reasons. Is he looking for a more competitive sports, better community/town? Hamilton. Great Outing Club and world-ranked Debate team? Bates. You really can’t go wrong with either. Good luck with all three. If you have any detailed questions about Bates, PLEASE message me. I LOVE to talk to people about my school :)

Wesleyan is SO not the best…
BATES is…
Bates is a school that values community and service. There are no organizations that anyone can’t join(eg frats) This gives the school a very egalitarian vibe. The profs take interest in the students, and it is a very personal education. I was proud to visit last year on my trip with my sons, and see that it is still the main vibe. My boys were amazed to see professors that I hadn’t seen in 25 years greeting me by name and stopping to talk to us.Bates is on the Newsweek 6th “best schools for do-gooders”, and as a family doctor still serving my local community, I’d have to credit it to the fabulous, supportive education I had at Bates.
